Cheap, easy credit is one of the reasons housing prices have been able to climb so high. I wouldn't be surprised if 40-year loans become more common in the future to allow for further increases.

I agree. Xcode for iOS is exactly what is needed to make the iPad a serious tool.

Requiring a bond during the appeals process seems like a fair way to handle this. Interesting to see Qualcomm so confident they will come out ahead.

The ~60 lawsuits [1] filed over this point to (A) in my opinion. If this was normal behavior, we would see similar throttling on previous iPhones, Android's and laptops. [1] https://www.macrumors.com/2018/02/2

Current generation Android's like the OnePlus 6t cost the same as an iPhone 7 in India. Apple may be ahead in some areas, but getting a device 3-4 years newer for the same price is a big deal.

Hopefully not. The long usable lifespan is one of the reason resale values are so high, which helps many justify the high price of a new phone.

No, I expect Apple to provide a large enough battery to ensure the device is still usable after a year. This was a design flaw. Before the throttling update, there were ~1 year old iPhones that would reboot anytime you took a photo or opene

Unless Apple is able/willing to release a more affordable iPhone, their growth in developing markets is unlikely to increase any further. The competition in the $250-$500 range has gotten very good in the past few years.

I know it doesn't apply to most HN readers, but iPhone pricing has really gotten out of reach to most of the world. Doesn't seem surprising that sales have begun to stagnate.

I work with a 'rockstar' programmer in his mid 30s. This guy can hammer out good code ridiculously fast and probably does close to half the total work on our team of 8.

The issue wasn't that the battery only lasted 3 hours instead of 5. A degraded battery literally couldn't provide a high enough voltage to keep the CPU running, so the phone crashed. Apple covered this up by always throttling the

Historically there have been a lot of sketchy dealers who are very pushy and dishonest. If you go in with your own financing or cash, and say 'no' to all the upselling, it isn't much different than Best Buy. Most new car deal

While carrier app stores were a thing, it was quite common to download apps from other sources before the iPhone. There were Java apps, Windows mobile apps and others.

Under the American system, you earn bad credit by paying certain bills over 30 days late. Bad credit equals higher rates on loans. While I hate this system for privacy reasons, there is always going to be some sort rating system for busines

The original iPhone was unsubsidized. It required a contract until it was unlocked, but you could only buy it at the full retail price, forfeiting any subsidies.

I actually find open source developers to be far more passionate about their projects than developers of commercial software. This makes sense to me, as they work on these projects because they want to, not because they have to.
