While I agree that true masters admit they have a lot more to learn I kind of like the idea of rating yourself. How would you convey to someone that you have worked with a certain technology but would not put it as your main experience?

This sounds like a really great idea! What are the go to resources for academic papers?

I know someone that owns a Model S. When he had a small issue the level of service was insane. They came to pick up his Model S and gave him a loaner. They had back to him in a day. This is new technology but the problems are few and if the

Agreed. Most of the times I check invoice emails I am looking for the Tracking Information. This is what makes it tough to move away from Google. Yes they give the NSA access to my data and border on scary by analyzing all of my usage but t

Twitter I don't think so but I feel like the majority of people visiting Hack News use Github in some way. Remote Repo, Deploying, Open Source tools that are hosted on Github. Maybe just me...

I've never played EVE Online but from what I have read about it the engineering behind it seems interesting. Have any suggests for Dev Blog posts from their team?

I'm really interested in switching email providers but is there a solution for calendar? I really enjoy my calendar syncing across multiple devices and sharing with my friends and family. Anyone have some good solutions?

I support Ruby apps so Ruby is on every server anyways. With that said you can use Omnibus Chef Installer now which includes a copy of Ruby just for Chef. Good for servers where you don't need Ruby or small servers that would take awhi

Agreed. I work with Chef and it is my tool of choice but don't think that Puppet sucks. The important thing is someone uses some form of Configuration Management. If people find Salt easier than Chef/Puppet/CFEngine/Ansi

I was actually considering owncloud but there seems to be a lot of negative experiences. Anyone know if its getting better/actively developed?

Agreed. I think that is a pretty good move for adoption. My QNAP NAS has always played well with bittorrent and backups. Adding ARM support means you can use this in a bunch of low power devices.

Thanks for that. I was wondering where the transition from air to land was. Makes sense they route through Satellites. It makes it more interesting because your packets are going from 39,000 feet to space then to land. Awesome

A better question is: "Who doesn't find tracing packets from 39,000 feet interesting?" =)

I started with Chef around version 10.4. It's really amazing to see how far Chef and the community have come since then. Keep up the awesome work Opscode!

Another solution I like is adding fail2ban. It adds a rule to iptables to block the IP after a set number of incorrect attempts and you can set when to unblock it.

Agreed. We created a backup database in a west region and it only took a few minutes to provision with Chef. I would be curious if there was an open source tool that copies your current security groups and writes them to other regions.

I found the Music app painful to use for my podcasts. Not sure how much better this will make it. On the other hand I purchased Instacast and it is one of the most used apps on my phone.
