Google has fuck all to do with my decision to use Go and nor has it ever been a consideration. In fact I’m about as decoupled from Google as one can reasonably expect to be. I think you need to do some research into what “personal preferenc

Your opinions of Go are quite clear, given every time there is a thread on HN about Go your relish telling everyone how backwards a language it is. Yet weirdly you’re not the only competent engineer out there. I’ve been programming for 30+

That’s not really a fair comparison. This code is installing Go where as you’re assuming Rust is already installed in your example. Plus I’ve had way more issues with Rust versions than I have with Go. Ultimately though this all just a very

I’ve not heard of that perspective before however I’m not going to discount what you’re saying because everyone’s psychology is different. For what it’s worth, most people I know feel pride and a sense of accomplishment if they’ve found mot

I think there’s some bias going on here. Any other blog on any other subject and I’m sure you’d be the first to say “link to the original rather than the summary”. In fact people not linking to the original work is popular complaint on here

This article is a garbage rewrite of the original blog[1]. It misses a boatload of detail and even gets some details wrong along the way (Like the fact .NET isn’t actually running on DOS) [1] https://medium.com/@MStrehovsky&

I don’t think it’s possible to build a suction cup (or in fact any climbing tool) which will work 100% of the time against any countermeasure. However this design does seem a significant step forward from existing suction cups.

Nobody is suggestion autocomplete replaces basic API knowledge, reading the docs, etc. What they’re saying is autocomplete saves having to remember every facet of the API precisely. It’s like a rounded edge on plug pins, you still have to k

Shouldn’t the fact he’s using it and likes it be proof it exists and not a substitute tool? In addition to his workflow, I want to add that I really appreciate having the parameters and types displayed when calling a function or method. Som

It’s not about entitlement, it’s about helping people who are less physically capable. Sometimes that will be due to age, sometimes due to disability, sometimes it will be because they’re carrying a toddler with them. But you can’t expect e

FreeNAS is famous for recommending the upper tier of ZFS requirements. You can, and many people often do, run ZFS on a fraction of what FreeNAS recommends. In fact I’ve had ZFS running on a 32bot processor with 4GB RAM before. I’ve also had

I’m not saying I agree with the GPs point but I do think you’re also missing their point. To use your example, it would matter if the question was asking people to do mental arithmetic. The issue isn’t whether a machine or human is making t

Last year there was a discovery where some single cell organisms were extracting electrons directly from solid rock. So I don’t think ice is a barrier. I do agree that it’s unlikely that life would exist on that planet. But I think the chan

The thing is, I wasn’t saying Airpods owners (priorities) were wrong. All I was saying is that there is actually a glutton of devices that perform the same way as airpods do when a former poster suggest airpods were unique in the market. It
