This reminds me of a short story I read a few years ago in a sci-fi anthology. Basic premise was aliens show up in the solar system to attack Venus, and Venus fights back. The story is written from an Earthling perspective, and addresses th

How susceptible are we to another catastrophic volcano eruption? After COVID-19 shut down supply chains, there were some problematic delays, but seems like we quickly recovered. If the entire planet's crops were wiped out, we're a

So the source color is the truth, let's pretend we know it's the paper equivalent of #333. The app captures a color and renders it as #444. The user then says, no wait that's wrong, and the app then provides alternatives that

But your eyes would perceive the color IRL and on the monitor with equivalence so presumably regardless of how other eyes see it, it would be 1:1 copy paste from the camera after calibration. I refuse to believe we have to measure brainwave

Why can't they show multiple options similar to the clear type calibration tool in windows? Approximate 6 different colors, user selects the one that matches their eyes best. You could even offer a pro account and send out a camera to

+1 to a maid. You can get someone to clean, do laundry, and possibly cook 2x a week for less than $10k ($200 week * 50 weeks) a year in a mid-sized metro. Possibly even cheaper. Any couple that bickers about cleaning at all should try a mai

Not sure why you were down-voted. Access to water with no restrictions in a location dead center between Milwaukee and Chicago was the obvious play here. There was never an honest attempt to make a new silicon valley. They got land that in

This may be unpopular, but for 30 masks it probably isn't worth the risk to donate. Between interacting and potentially being a carrier, it would be better if you used them yourself going to the grocery store/pharmacy once every o

You'll need to fill in the gaps around the fan blades. I did this with pink foam insulation. After that modification, place the filter on the back of the fan. If the filter suctions onto the fan that's a good sign you're pulli

This sounds a lot like you're trying to time the market, which is great if it works, but it's a gamble. Dollar cost averaging is generally regarded as the safer option. Remember, the market can remain irrational longer than you ca

Article claims there is no interruption to viewing experience. I disagree. HBO ruins immersion with shows like GoT by having random shitty HBO content promos between each episode. Prime Video does the same thing. Sure you can skip it, but t

Pictures are weird. I've always hated being in pictures, but I wish there were more of my everyday life growing up (including my 20's) to show my son. Digging through my grandparents house and seeing 1000's of photos of firew

I've thought about this, and a large component of the importance of continued employment is of course money, but more important is the insurance provided. If a public option came to be, the "safety" of those left jobless woul

I think this has to do with ongoing costs and upfront costs. You can't get a home without SOME upfront cash, and it's known that you need money to pay the taxes, additional utilities, maintenance, etc after you purchase the home.

This reminded me of when my old company cut the cheese from the salad bar. Mind you, this company was famous for their free lunch perks, but when a salad bar in WI cuts the cheese... well.. it stinks. This was in 2009/2010. They did a
