If sex is optional for gender, then how is gender different from fashion? It is a good point IMO, and from the perspective of the theory of embodied cognition , to which I highly subscribe, I've always had a hard time thinking that

Thanks for the suggested read, sounds interesting indeed. I'm not comparing simple vs. complex but rather sound vs. flawed, although often sound = simpler than flawed. The 737 here is yet another example of this : - the MAX design is f

I am, and I have experienced many times what I'm talking about. A simpler yet effective design (may it be initial or rework) comes at a much lower cost than a flawed one, which inevitably aggregates irrelevant complexities.

I must say I disagree with this stance. It's not so much a matter of ressources than of specifically engineering excellence. There's plentiful examples of a much better product that was created with less ressources than the shitty

Automation is not bad per se. What I mean is that there must be an opportunity for human override at all levels of automation (and as seamless as possible) in case of machine failure. It does not deny that it could be done by one pilot only

Well, it was the selling point. I'm thinking now of the upgrades. Anyway, for the sake of selling, they went into the biggest failure of modern aerospace engineering. This should just not have happened.

I'd say this is why they are half-baked : human integration was not thouroughly thought of in the design. When I speak of overriding, I mean human overriding. This is something I think Boeing had got right with its manual overrides : w

What I fail to understand is why do they not design an overriding scheme to MCAS, such as an "above-threshold" pull on the stick by the pilot. I can recall that this was a classic design by Boeing. Whatever the number of AoA senso

Could be, yes. Although I'm always struck how the French are just unknowledgeable of huge swathes of the english-speaking internet (me included, sometimes). Because it is english-speaking, for that matter.

Well, while I can agree with this, it doesn't deny the fact that the US can use NATO for its defense industry interests. And they will. Which I mean, is okay, that's life and geopolitics. I'm not saying it's the primar

The Belgian military policy has never been an aggressive one (modest-sized country and army), yet SEAD missions are. NATO is some sort of US military policy deployed in european countries, and can serve (as in this case) US commercial inter

Don't fool yourself into thinking US allies are unilaterally wanting the F35. There's heavy lobbying and strategic pressure underneath. If on only one example, in the recent Belgian Tender (which led to adoption of the F35) appear

I'm not saying you have to have specialized aircraft (although, as it has been said, a "swiss knife" tends to to it all but less effectively). I'm saying you can't easily compare two combat aircraft. You have to be

This won't happen for a combat aircraft, because most of the true detailed performance is kept secret (for obvious strategic -and commercial- reasons).

Agreed on the skepticism. However you can't just say that a combat aircraft is better than an other. It highly depends on the kind of mission considered (Air defense, Close air support, Ground strike, etc...), and on the underlying war

Same here, I'm currently experiencing this and it's very impressive. After 15 years not playing the guitar, it's been 1 month since I've started again and it's like everything is coming back really fast, even some g
