Neat. I hadn't thought about distributing and receiving challenges privately as I was planning to basically interview candidates on site. But I see the value in your idea as not all candidates will be able to spend half a day on site.

I am just curious is it not be possible to use a crystal oscillator and hence not be dependent on the power line for timing? Are they not doing it just on principle i.e using only transistors, resistors, diodes and capacitors? I vaguely rem

Can the copyright holder take them to small claims court? He/she ought to be able to file one without needing a lawyer and for minimal costs. At the very least the court may force them to release the source code.
