I honestly just take it as a somewhat more extreme version of Sturgeon's Law. But because of how much money there is to be made, we not only have creators who aren't up to the task, we also have so many who are, but perverse incen

No, you're not the only one. It's just generally not advisable to say so here (or worse, on Reddit) because the bucket-crabs will getcha. FWIW, I did write atrocious code when I was 16. But I'm in my 40's now.

I’m trying to imagine modern medicine converging on circumcision as a best practice, in the absence of its ritual origins, and in the absence of cosmetic concerns. But I’m still convinced it’s a retcon.

> Why should this be discarded? Well, it's a restatement of the Gambler's Fallacy, but I'll taboo using that as an argument because it begs the question (but for reals!) I thought about this for a while, and here's th

TL;DR: Google used to reach into the World Wide Web and deliver what I asked for, now it sells me what it has on hand in its stockroom. If I type terms that map unambiguously to a result into 1998-201x Google, I get a well-regarded exemplar

Someone once advised me that I should do this when so moved. Since then I have emailed various luminaries, and I don't think I've yet failed to get a helpful response. Anything from a URL, to a sentence, to 2 paragraphs.

I'm finding out just in the past two years that the days when you could count on Corp. Entity A in Tallahassee not knowing about a prior transaction with Corp. Entity B in Portland, are pretty much over. Everybody knows everything. Ev

It took me a long time to learn that it can be very valuable to stay in the loop with PMs and planners. Once, I was tearing my hair out over a huge task, and literally on the verge of quitting in shame, having realized it was beyond my abil

I don't think tech managers should be taking management lessons from Full Metal Jacket in any case. But I sat at a lunch table with this guy every day for 3 years, and I know he was not trying to motivate me. He was trying to keep me i
