If we're talking about software development, I bet you can piece together a computer from the trash (where do you think my home servers come from :)) that will be good enough to run a company. After that, your only issue is food and rent (w

Is there a way to compute a "taste distance" for a combination of users reliably? I think if you just throw their ratings together you'll get a point with impossible taste (except if they like the same movies, in which case it won't matter)

You see? When you put it that way it sounds stupid; otherwise it has beautiful words like "butchering" that convey additional feelings about the subject :)

So you don't mind people butchering your words? I'd be offended if someone created a TL;DR of one of my posts...

The article didn't say, does this site have any intelligence? A modern porn site would be like Netflix, i.e. it will slowly "learn" what (sub)genres you like, whether you like blondes, brunettes, etc. and it will automatically suggest video

At least where I worked, the dog just kept us company and wasn't obnoxious at all . It was very calming to just play with her when you're stuck somewhere, most of the time petting the dog yielded beautiful technical solutions. She should h

It's a software patent, therefore it's frivolous. "The basic algorithmic ideas that people are now rushing to patent are so fundamental, the result threatens to be like what would happen if we allowed authors to have patents on individual w

The certain prize for me is having fun and learning CoffeeScript and physics. That's really more than I'd expect from any game :) The 10 BTC would be nice, but meh.

When you click "Add team" you can add other species, but I think only the open-source ones and you get no ladder points (but it's very useful to test your design). To compete against everyone you'd have to "submit to ladder", I think.

The people are just taking back some of the power they had previously delegated to banks and governments. Our leaders have become too far disconnected from us, they don't even understand that we are used to unprecedented freedom of action

This could be really useful if it could be integrated with some hardware to make cat doors that open only for your cat... or at least a cat...

An example of the normal attitude regarding such "incidents": http://mpex.co/faq_r.html#23 and also 24. I tend to agree. The less mainstream adoption there is, the less support tickets you'll have to answer.

Blockchain.info wallets are pretty nice, they do client-side encryption with separate log-in and spending passwords (so your private key is encrypted inside an encrypted .json file and the first password decrypts only the outer layer). You

I suspect the Vietnamese treatment of dogs is an outlier, which doesn't invalidate the general rule. People think dogs are their friends, that they have stronger and more pronounced feelings and emotions than pigs (which may or may not be t

Plus, since my money is constantly increasing in value, I can buy something "useless" every month and still have the same amount of money. Inflationary money I stick in deposits so I loose a little less than usual, deflationary - I spend.

You don't get to be a politician without some charisma and the ability to tell believable lies. I'm not saying these aren't useful skills, but putting too much power in such people is generally a bad idea.
