What was more or less your point? It's a discussion of monopolies.

Avent's article (which Krugman's is discussing) discusses Google in the context of possibly being a monopoly. Krugman's presenting an analysis that shows that even a monopolist may not be able to make money in some circumstances where th

Wasn't that the point of Gwene[1] (also by Lars)? Serious question, because I haven't used either but am interested in what you're describing. edit: [1] http://gwene.org/about.php

Not providing an RSS feed is like not providing an API; you're giving up control of how scrapers access your website, but I'm sure that readers will find a way to get automate content aggregation either way. It's just annoying to lose stand

Yours is far from a universal opinion. Plenty of people who cheat could probably win a fair fight, but cheating makes it easier. Watch any sport at any level and you'll see "cheaters" win.

A free trial version would be useful for people interested in checking it out. I'd rather have it feature limited to the point that it's unsuitable for long term use than have to remember to cancel a "free for one month" trial account.

I like the general sentiment, and I generally act the same way, but I can't help but think, "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying." Another analogy: I played tennis in high school and in every match I've played in my life, there are no

I'm not sure if I agree, but that's a fair point. But, again, it wasn't obvious 8 years ago that reader wasn't part of google's long-term strategy. They had gmail, blogger, sites, picasa, etc; all of which could be part of an "open-web" s

Reader is viewed as standalone now. IIRC it was introduced pretty soon after google accounts were and not long after gmail itself, and I remember thinking about it as part of a nebulous "google account package." Now obviously in hindsight

There's a difference between "use" and "rely on," and I think one would have to be a fool to not factor in a startup's viability (as best as possible) when deciding whether or not to integrate its product into one's workflow. If you use dr

One more thought on this: no one on unemployment is obligated to take the first job they can find. Part of the reason for unemployment insurance is to give people time to find a job that's a good fit. In the broader sense, that's pretty m

Late addition: saying "I'm not really a potential customer" isn't quite right. I'm putting together a hobby-project website with a lot of SVG images and have been thinking of looking into PhantomJS to generate pngs or gifs for browsers whe

I'm not really a potential customer, but I'll jump in: $199 and $499 per month shocked me, and the range $29 to $499 completely confused me about your target customer. You should have an option marked "FREE" and in the same text as the p

Yeah, that's the point of TFA. It's a professional tool for journalists and bloggers , or, even more bluntly, it's a professional tool for people with a platform to share their opinions.
