Honestly, every time I see a job market paper[1] written in Word I can't help but think, "this person must have never worked on anything (mathematically) hard, or needed to automate table generation, or..." [1] on the off chance that the te

Please quote the section of the essay that says startups should aim to have exponential growth in their value, since I can't seem to find it (I see a statement like that for revenue, which is different).

Yeah, it's also possible that I considered that and disagree with you. I'm not saying that everyone will prefer keeping score on paper, but some people really do and some other people will appreciate not having an iPhone on the table when

I'd replace gmail and gchat with fastmail.fm (owned by Opera, although if Facebook ever buys Opera...). You can run XMPP through fastmail's servers, which lets you IM all of your gchat friends (for now at least). As has been pointed out e

Even for US keyboards, the obviously better step is to replace "(" and ")" with "9" and "0" -- familiar key location but without the shift key. Plus you avoid using the pinky finger which is an ergonomic win. Edit: note that there might be

Newsbeuter is awesome for text heavy feeds, but less so for (say) photoblogs. I'd really like to see more development of different types of specialized rss readers and get away from the OP's argument that there's a "right way" to use rss.

A nice touch might be if voting reordered the site's RSS feed as well as the webpage. If you have a way to generate a podcast from submitted music, that could be a great combination. I have a lot of trouble following HN through an rss rea
