I definitely agree that we should be improving browsers in that way, though I'm not sure that it's easy and I'm pessimistic it'll ever happen. Mostly because - cynically - I think that the vast majority of users will n

In theory, sort of, but I think that in practice this is not a solid enough solution to make an app and its data future-proof. As I see it, PWAs and browser-based databases are more like an offline cache rather than a permanent way to store

I hate dark patterns like everybody else, but I have to say that - despite those - the Ryanair website still seems to me one of the best ones for booking a flight. It might be because I got accustomed to it, but - while you indeed need to d

Most smartwatches estimate VO2Max using other data (mainly how fast you run/ride, your HR, and your weight). Blood oxygen level is not used for that.

Well done! Looking at the first few PRs in the list, you can see things like: - Adding a word in a comment. - Adding config files to self-promote dev services. - Switching from using var to let. - Changing well-established behaviours of cor

Yes, it's a known bug[1] on all browsers. For the MVP I decided not to fix it, as copying-pasting from Excalidraw works, so there's a workaround for it. [1] https://github.com/excalideck/excalideck/issues

Haven't thought about the self-hosting story yet (or rather, I thought more in the direction of a desktop Electron app), but definitely an option. Added an issue[1]. [1] https://github.com/excalideck/excalideck

Not yet, but it's planned for the ~future[1]. For the MVP I though it'd be ok for the user to save the pdf file and use their OS viewer to present it. :) [1] https://github.com/excalideck/excalideck/issue

Hello HN, here's an open source app I've been working on for the past few weeks. I love Excalidraw[1], the virtual whiteboard (discussed recently here on HN[2]). Its UX is great - simple and intuitive - and really makes it easy fo

Shameless plug, I can suggest StaticDeploy ( https://staticdeploy.io/ ) as an open source, self-hosted alternative to Netlify, which can give you a similar deployment workflow. It's definitely possible to just host direc

I agree in theory, but in practice I've found it very hard to keep Spring (Boot) out of my code. Part of the blame I think falls on Spring's DI container, which is "too good". It makes it easy to pull in any bean, even t

I've been on the other side of a similar conversation, that eventually got me the name I wanted after around 30 days. This was around five years ago, when there were still no scoped packages and the ecosystem was surging in popularity.
