If you've had good experiences with the nvidia drivers, thats great. My experiences with them have been bad and I will use Nouveau for general desktop environments unless I'm also doing gpgpu.

Nvidia/Nouveau is a good example. I've had a number of laptops with nvidia graphics. For most of that time Nouveau was _more stable_ than the official nvidia drivers. Linux clearly was a second class citizen for nvidia for most of

Cool, thats a different claim than what you said above but at least one I can actually engage with. I've run linux on many Dell and Lenovo systems over the last 25 years. Most of those systems were fully unsupported by the manufactures

Why does Apple need to contribute to this work to make it somehow legitimate or good? I own some nice hardware (an m2-air), I want to run Linux on it. Asahi allows me to do that! Why can we not celebrate that the asahi team is bringing oss

I'm a big fan of FTS5 as a cheap/easy way of adding full text search to datasets. Recently I've been storing these datasets in S3 and been querying them directly via a VFS[0]. Its a simple way to have FTS available to lambda

This isn't an equivalent comparison between Lambda and App Runner. The lowest memory configurations of lambda don't get a cpu allocation and run a lot slower than lambda functions with more memory. In practice this makes a pretty

TOTP seed migrations are a real pain. Its good to see Google offering a solution to that problem. I've moved to using the pass otp extension[0] which gives me secure storage of the totp seeds without being tied to a single device. [0]:

The main point of TOTP is that users passwords are mostly weak and reused across sites. TOTP protects those users from password stuffing and similar attacks. If you are using a strong random password generated from 1PW you've already m

Cross compiling with zig is so easy. For example I use sqlite in Go projects on arm. The incantation is just: export GOARCH=arm64 export CC=zig cc -target aarch64-linux-musl export CXX=zig cc -target aarch64-linux-musl
