According to VisaJourney, SF, Seattle, San Jose, Sacramento, etc… times are averaging more than 500 days between filing and decision, with Seattle over 700. My family-based AOS is at 385 days with no scheduled interview yet (SF field office

There’s a lot of weird comments in here by people who don’t know anything about deaf people. 1. Text is a common medium for communicating with the deaf. Younger deaf people in particular will be fine with this 2. VRS is also an option, but

I used a cookie cutter project with react-admin and fastapi but I was kind of bummed with how much packages were pulled in and how slow builds were. I figure I need to go in there and figure out all the stuff I don’t need, but after that I

There’s gifs of hexagons on a planet you can search but you can’t cover a sphere with just hexagons. Even so, I imagine the poles are irrelevant to Uber

A lot of people complaining this is a stupid law, but if you substitute dealership with startup, manufacturer with Amazon, and cars with managed service running on AWS, then maybe it’s more relatable? In general though, I’m always elated to

I have Russian colleagues who I asked about Navalny they had the same view as on him (despite how much they dislike Putin). I was mildly surprised to hear that viewpoint.

I would try to do that but you could rarely get it to work reliably. I did get it myself a few times and that was always shocking

I used to get a kick in middle school disassembling disposable cameras (unlimited supply since dad worked in a grocery store with a photo lab), charging the circuit, and discharging on coins.

Well it goes quite a bit further than that, and it’s celebrated in other parts of the state (I remember burning of Zozobra in Farmington in early 90s)

I personally strive for code that can be read as a sentence, especially in complicated sections of code. This sometimes leads to weird intermediate variables which might look superfluous, e.g. intermediates like: foo_has_at_least_1 = len(fo

I was mostly thinking about how small changes can sometimes touch a larger quantity of files on moderate or large code bases, so a bit more things to wade through when doing a review, but point taken.

There’s not many code review platforms that are great at showing you relevant comments in a diff because they are often in a much different part of the file, so I kind of think it’s hopeless in a large code base to catch this sort of thing

I know uid 0 in container will always map to uid outside the container (e.g. 1005), but I haven't tried e.g. uid 999 in the container to ensure it maps to uid outside of the container (again, 1005), does that work?

Not necessarily. I often see people learn starting with SQLite because it's easy/installed (and quite a bit of tutorials start with it, especially for Python), and then move to MySQL/Postgres, but that is N=2 so it's not

Our biggest problem with Fortnite is that it’s where the friends are so it’s a way, probably the primary way, for them to socialize - especially as some friends are on different continents. I wish this wasn’t the case, but fighting a networ

In theory you need CAP_SETUID and maybe a few other to run it with less privileges. That can also be done theoretically with another user than root if you can hack things appropriately. In practice the hacking part is hard.

This is good advice but sometimes you will need to nest things depending on database and optimizer and how it handles CTEs, especially if you ever mess with recursive things. An additional problem here is that there’s no standard way to rep

TIL about lua filters in pandoc 2+. I saw that there's a diagram/graphvix thing in pandoc too - is pandoc doing the svg graphs, or something else doing the autogeneration?
