I don’t think it was called that, but maybe I read it as a retelling of sorts. It was a book probably from the sixties or seventies but it’s possible!

Interesting observation :) Yeah, the mechanism is at work in various ways already if you think of it.

A kind of second opinion system might be good. The danger I see is that you become to relient on it. There is a great science fiction book (forgot the name!) where everyone forgot how things worked (and didn’t need to know!) because machin

The last few weeks I have been calling this a Crystal Ball moment. We really don’t know where we are with this. Unfortunately humans don’t do very well handling uncertainty and especially when the incentive to wing it and to be the next big

It is one of those crystal ball moments, nobody really knows what impact it’s going to have and at what speed. Will my job (frontend dev) be gone by years end? Maybe, maybe not. But if the numbers do get scary, I think we do need to have

Unfortunately what we see so often is that a lot of money is being poured into something that is just a sinkhole. Take NFTs for instance. People get swept up by fads far easier than by genuine improvements. I am actually in favor of a glob

Haha, I can imagine! For kids, you usually design different, including skeuomorphic. I am not a specialist on kids interface design, but I have seen some impressive demonstrations. Big buttons that speak, color coding, friendly characters g

I also think part because he wasn’t thinking “computer” , he was thinking “appliance” , with the skeuomorphic interface to match. I would love to see more of that instead of the flat designs we see now.

As I mentioned in a recent comment: The balance between privacy and the authority is just that. We outsourced the rule of law to the state in order to have a fair and just society. Ipso facto the government should be fair and just to have t

Right now, I love seeing two options. Even if NASA cost a gazillion more dollars, we have two mechanics at work : cathedral building (NASA) and Bazaar building (Iterate quick, learn of mistakes) Personally I think the budget of NASA is inco

Easiest newsday in ages : -Billionaire entrepreneur news? Check. -Biggest rocket ever news? Check. -Explosion that makes Michael Bay seem like an amateur? Check. -Environmental disaster news? Check. The list could probably go on for a while

Your comment makes me wonder why Mexico doesn’t have a launch facility. And if I remember correctly Costa Rica actually builds rocket parts.

Could also be a side coinage if I read it correctly as “Shiny Object Syndrome” , wanting to use the latest new techniques that are in the hype cycle.

Wow, that’s a gigantic fire right there. So it seems local refineries are not very interesting.

Wondering… Is it possible to make tiny refineries for say a town or area? So locally produced or is that a environmental nightmare?

I have to disagree strongly. My take on this that navel staring is a source of the problems you mention. We are so hopelessly fascinated by internal conflict that having a more telescopic view and/or grand horizon view of what Earth’

Ergo, if we train on say a bird or primate, or perhaps dolphins, it might be able to grasp concepts animals use? Say lots of video footage with context?

Interesting, so it could be similar to how our brains store knowledge, but could also be completely different. This makes me wonder if these models are perfect universal translators once they “grasp” a concept.

Yeah, you are right. I think the mechanism, to start an outrage vs the perceived outgroup is indeed the same. Once ignited lots of people don’t change their stance, unless you score high on self-reflection perhaps.

The general mechanism is always the same : in-group vs out-group. My tribe is humane, your tribe is evil beyond compare. The exploit is emotional reactivity, get your in-group gaslighted so they are on permanent rage.
