Okay, I'm sorry, really. I made what I thought (and still think) is an accurate synopsis of your posts. You disagree, and that's fine. I don't think any further progress is going to be made here.

To me, this seemed like the major logical disconnect in the article. There's obviously still money in web companies, but the "next Google" is much more likely to be acquired by the current Google than ever realizing that potential, which m

Few stones being captured is usually a sign of skillful players. I don't think the same can be said of fool's mate.

I'd seen that, but I haven't seen any published results of 1k players being routinely beaten at 19x19. If I've missed something like that, I'd be grateful for a link.

AI is search, brute-force or otherwise. There are a number of fascinating things that have come out of chess research on the way to grandmaster-level play, and even if the strongest chess players are all computers, that doesn't mean that

It's worth noting that it can beat 1k players on a 9x9 board. On a 19x19 board (the standard board size), they are both weaker and less consistent.

[The author is] someone who is envious of someone's superior intellect . . . I have been the focus of that sort of envy before As to the antisocial bit, I'm not going to quote your posts in their entirety, but that's a pretty big chip you

There's an interesting trend in the computer go community away from rule-based AI, and towards a more stochastic approach. This means that where the leading developers were all 1 dan or better (very talented amateurs, by the metric of the a

Assuming some basic threshold of intelligence, it's much more important to most people how pleasant someone is to be around than how smart they are. If you do fit into this "antisocial genius" archetype (which you're tossing around every b

Entrepreneurs have a code written in their DNA that says “make the world a better place than it was before you came here.” That’s what drives us, and if we can’t do that, we feel like failures, and we look like failures. I'm not clear ho

Based on that page, I'd say Clojure is pretty well suited to scale over multiple machines. It's not an either/or thing; Erlang can work just as well on one machine as on ten. The point, though, is that something which can run on several m

When I applied there, I was told they only offered computer engineering courses, not computer science. That was before they had actually opened the school, though, so maybe that's changed.

It's actually pretty straightforward to detect a face; most mid-range digital cameras can do it nowadays. The problem is that even if you tell the program that face A is not face B, all you've done is given it a very small hint in a VERY b

It seems like there wouldn't be a lot of room for false positives in what you're suggesting. Assuming that the pictures aren't all passport photos (face-on, high resolution, uniform lighting), there would be a lot of hand-holding required
