By April 2020, it had roughly 200 extensions because there was no push for marketing it just yet. By the time VSCodium implemented it in June 2022, the push to move extensions over was in the works, and hundreds more were added. Also have b

I think most people would agree that there's no way to compete with the social media giants. Regardless if it has better features, thanks to the network effect, Mastodon will always have a small fraction of users compared to Twitter.

I would say that's backwards. Sure, politics is slow, but we've seen it succeed exceptionally with aerospace safety (meaning planes built to protocol and maintained to prevent crashes, not TSA security theater) which is an insanel

Dang, sorry to wrongly call you out then! I saw "sr=8-2-spons" in the link which looked sponsor-related. But looking online, referral links generally have a tag parameter.

The Amazon referral link is suspicious, but I don't know anything about the author and they may very well be an unbiased critic simply trying to make some additional income from their blog.

Are you running Fedora36/Gnome/Firefox100? The more info you can give, the easier it is to debug for the devs.

Framework boards has its own compilation of battery tweaks for linux, though I'd also recommend the Arch wiki another user posted in this thread. https://community.frame.work/t/linux-battery-life-tuning/666...

In that case you can just raise an issue in the repo https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/pitivi-web/-/issues?... But I also understand that the true beauty of open source is the entitlement of free work f

I use Go for simple CLI apps and it's pretty dang good for that. They're used by coworkers, contractors, and clients so the fact I can just send over an executable for any OS is really nice. I wouldn't use it for anything too

I think the main thing is that Nintendo had splitscreen multiplayer planned, but performance prevented it. Edit: Got farther into the video and he talks about this at 14:50 ( https://youtu.be/t_rzYnXEQlE?t=890 )

This is why I'm excited for 9elements and Mullvad's System Transparency[0][1] project. The goal is to let the end users know that your server is indeed running the code it says it's running. Of course, open firmware and hardw

I think the crux of the argument is summed up here: > Developers could theoretically build an ECC implementation with terrible parameters and fail to check for things like invalid curve points, but they tend to not do this. So, it's

Glad to see Cunningham’s Law working its magic. The article was a good read, and the HN comments section has a lot of good alternative solutions to the proposed problems.

I said that the hate is overblown and unwarranted. That's not the same as saying it shouldn't exist; rather I was hoping to hear some good counterpoints to help me understand why some people dislike them to the point of hatred.

I think the hate for ligatures is overblown. You'll only encounter them in code, so you should instantly realize what they represent. I can understand _preferring_ to not have ligatures enabled, but hating them entirely seems unwarrant

For future reference, don't assume everyone on HN writes C/C++. I know what those terms mean but I was trying to point out that OP probably meant the exact same thing. Telling someone who doesn't know what widening a variable

Not sure if this is what the OP meant, but adding a bit is effectively doubling the size. 16 bits = 65535. 17 = 131071.

Could also use privacy.com though iirc it only works at masking debit cards. But yeah, this burden shouldn't be offloaded to users to make sure they're using a different centralized service to actually cancel subscriptions.

Ah that would make sense. And water temperature likely plays a vital role as well. But for properly brewed green tea, it will still result in less caffeine than red tea as expected.
