Interesting idea. I wonder if anyone has created a 3D type spreadsheet, where you make calculations across different x,y,z planes. I suppose you could do this now with a standard 2d speadsheet, but it would require a lot of finagling.

The fact any modern computer chip works reliability is a pure miracle. The process variations are extreme, and you often end up with a lot of B-level engineers/technicians keeping things going. Having some experience in the semiconduct

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, but I've wasted a ton of time in math classes working through way too many academic exercises that have little real world applications. For example, learning a bunch of tricks to solve a different

Reminds me of the 3d TVs that were being forced on consumers. Nobody wanted them because you had to wear a set of goofy glasses. The problem with VR and AR is that you can't sit around the living room and enjoy the same entertainment.

I have a love of electro-mechanical seven-segment displays. For scoreboards and timers, I feel like these are less intrusive than modern electronic display scoreboards. There is something magical about seeing the score "flip" when

What would be a comparable early computer with the same computational power? Amazing to think how a machine the size of a room is now only a penny!

That is insane. Did his insurance cover this? What happens if you refuse to pay such outlandish fees? I'm sorry he had to deal with this.

Agree. Remember those amazing fish screen savers back in the 90's. Those blew my mind. I have not seen any modern versions of that. Someone please take my money.

Does anyone know of any similar ideas for an interactive animals/pets for your desktop? This is the best thing I could find so far to put on an extra monitor. Note you can click to interact with the penguins and also feed them. https:

This is how modern roofing stackups work. They have a radiant heat barrier (layer) usually made from a thin foil shield attached to the roofing plywood. The only catch is you need a vented barrier below the foil to remove the heat. This is

This is a nice idea from that discussion, using machined header pins. https://makezine.com/article/technology/if-breadboards-break...

I’m surprised electronic breadboards have not changed for over 50 years. Nothing worse than spending an hour debugging a circuit only to find the breadboard connection is bad. Lots of students in digital logic class can attest to this.

Rolling this technology out in practice is quite challenging. How do you trigger "The Alarm" for a given area? How much of a guard band do you put around the event and what happens when you have false positives? Do you call everyo

Are there any browsers that are text only with nice formatting? Would be great to style the page just based of h1, h2 etc and make it beautiful to read from a typography formatting perspective.

How many organizations of similar size bamboozle regulators? When a fast food restaurant is responsible for an ecoli outbreak, regulars are quick to point out broken processes in the organization that need fixed. It's a bit of reaction

Understood, but even if you are trickle feeding thousands of small houses with say 1kw(max) each, that still requires Megawatts of power. 1k*1k=1M. Therefore, you still need high voltage transmission lines to move this power from the source

Hi Voltage transmission lines are completely necessary. Running on 48V would require ridiculously large cables over any significant distance. Is there a reason you want to "Dismantle" high voltage transmission lines? They are the

I picked up a few of these as a kid at garage sales. Spent hours wiring up circuits that sometimes worked. These kits, plus the Radio Shack Forrest Mims books, will always have a special place in my heart.

When I was in 3rd grade we learned to type on a “keyboard” that was printed on a sheet of paper. I suppose it’s a novel way to teach kids to type with a budget of zero.
