Are these all undefined rather than merely unspecified or implementation-defined? I'm a little suspicious that they don't explain the difference, but I'm having trouble finding a definitive list of the places where the stan

"Integer between 0 and n-1 inclusive" is the type of valid indices for an n element array. The trouble is most languages don't have type systems that allow expressing that.

Even when you can't prove what arbitrary code does, proving what well-written code does is useful, and not writing unprovable code would be a small price to pay.

The right choices are bounds checking or autoboxing. I very rarely want arithmetic modulo n (and when I do, I want to choose n), but never do I ever want signed overflow quietly giving wrong answers.

Search results for "how do I branch in Mercurial" always seem to lead to elaborate tutorials that suggest repo clones or bookmarks or numbered anonymous heads or smuggling diffs outside the commit graph using an extension. If the

All I know is what the manufacturer said about unexpected resistance to changing building codes, and the blatant make-work compromise they ended up with: https://reason.com/blog/2010/06/24/plumbers-unions

A smart pointer is just a way to add custom behavior when it's created and destroyed. The question is what the smart pointer does. Usually the answer is update a reference count, which happens so frequently that it ends up being a lot

Knuth's code has bugs. NASA's code has bugs. There's no reason to believe that high quality software engineers even exist.

Whole versions don't get deprecated. Visible features get deprecated when they are still present in the latest version but will be missing or incompatible in the next major version.

IMHO a sane protocol sends command from the app to the GPU under my desk, rather than requiring every computer in the world to have a headless GPU and a fat enough pipe to stream pixels to my framebuffer. People keep saying some other par

Depending on VM_OVERCOMMIT_MEMORY, Linux might give out address space well beyond the size of the pagefile, hoping many of those pages are never written to (e.g., most threads never get anywhere near the bottom of their default stacks).
