A global "turn off and delete all location history on this device" would be best, really. At least for turning it off I expected it to be phone wide, not account specific. Deletion yeah, I suppose you're right.

Yes? Using non-mod cyanogen OS gave me bootloader issues because I didn't update the official way. I've run CM for a few years on it actually, decided to try Paranoid Android again recently when it looked like they started back u

Yeah, that's what I remembered, but it seems they replaced "Delete Location History" with a "Manage Activities" button which opens Google Maps and shows you location history, allowing you to delete it but only one d

Really? I'm running a OP1 right now, never noticed a problem... is there something I'm missing? Biggest issue I've had is probably shooting RAW pictures on non-stock ROMs was kind of complicated until someone made a flashable

This location history is really bad though. I added a test gmail account to my device a few weeks ago, but didn't remember location tracking was a per-account setting - now Google has nice big logs to hand whoever wants them and I can

Yeah, you get about the same with the Nexus devices, at least I've got friends still running the N5 who've went from 4->5->6 without issue. I've done about the same on my OnePlus One (5 was out when I got it but it ship

Really? That's sad to hear, back in the Android 2.4 days I used to love MIUI and would flash it on my devices intentionally as it had so many features that weren't yet in Android. Quick settings, dial by letters, just generally ni

Yeah, I think you're right, I still see Nexus 5s around every day and why did it do so well? Because it was priced at $200 less than otherwise comparable flagship devices from Apple, Samsung and HTC. Heck, look at the OnePlus 3 right n

Yup, get a OnePlus, get a Xiaomi, but what's the gain in going from one of those devices to a Pixel or the latest Samsung or even an iPhone? Pretty much nothing, a different UI, maybe a slightly better camera. It still does almost ever

Try getting an IMAP PUSH on iOS or staying logged in to XMPP or SSH all day and you'll take that back pretty damn quick. How about not wanting to use their phone app and use SIP instead? These are things I find necessary for day-to-day

No, not really - they can decide at any time to start storing that metadata of their own will, use it internally, sell it to advertisers or turn it over via a direct law enforcement portal if they want. Their access alone is in many ways a

They would also be able to figure out what phone numbers it was communicating with, at what times and how often - they do the routing. We're relying on them not to store that metadata, which is the problem.

Even 1M simultaneous users reporting every ~30 seconds could average down to ~30k messages per second. And they'd be extremely trivial to segment between servers. You're right, not a weekend hack, but a few weeks of a small team&#
