In my view, that's unfair to the early versions of Windows, at least up to Win7. Sure, they were charging a hefty sum for the OS but it was the best choice for a home and even office user. They used some dirty tactics on the business s

In a general, philosophical sense it probably is non-falsifiable. But... where does it end? What if we took the measurement 5ns, 500ms, 5 seconds, 5 hours later, because of, you know, things. Billions of universes springing up every second

Well, exactly that. I was a Mac user, enforced by my employer at the time, and I did not quite like it but was ok with it. Would never pay for it, with the high price, though. I use (soon to be used) Windows on my home PC since Windows 95.

The article does state that the referenced study may be seen as endorsement of this new shiny approach without clear analysis of the problem. What is true, in my experience, is that Agile is poorly implemented across the board. Sprints are

In the Amazon series are proto-Hobbits, before they settled down. So, they had a different society from the ones we read about in the books. But, yeah, the time travelling pots and socks must be how it worked :) Kind of like Skynet in the f

And I disagree with your disagreement :) Just some background first: one of the billion dollar mistakes is the null pointer which is a special value to be assigned to any type. It was inherent in the first high (today considered low) level

I must say that this "billion dollar mistake" about nulls really baffles me. What's the mistake? We invent new languages almost daily and none of them have ever resolved the problem. I mean, when you start with a pointer, it&

While the algorithm is interesting and I commend the authors for the algorithm, it should be noted that this is a guesstimate only. So, it's not really an efficient way to count distinct values but an efficient way to get an approximat

Emm, no, we are not. In Europe, in general, we do lean towards social-aware capitalism, which is still a far cry from a socialist republic. I know, I lived in one.

In Star Trek they had gravity plating, so that defined which way is down. Needless to say, we have no idea yet how that would even be possible :) So, for now, the question is whether we can still do it without such a solution.
