That's not how language evolves. I'm sure you don't pronounce every French word that was assimilated into English with a French accent / pronunciation.

Their argument is that word pronunciations can mutate over time. Knife used to be pronounced k'nife. This slowly faded over time and is now completely eliminated. By analog, jif being the original pronunciation is not important because
