Calca takes ideas from Soulver and super sizes them: * Soulver allows free text editing within a line of computation; Calca allows free editing in the entire file * Both update as you type * Soulver understands arithmetic; Calca knows algeb

It's from scratch C# code using Xamarin to build the UI layers for iOS/OS X. Well, I also use a parser generator jayc which is based on jay which is a yacc cc. Everything else is mine. It's a pretty standard Expression tree i

Developer here, yep that was a bad omission. The worst part is I do that kind of math all the time! You can count on it showing up in updates either as a function or as syntax.

Oh interesting. No support for that now, but it should be possible to add. Perhaps shelling out and just reading stdout? Binary interfaces would be harder.

Glad you like the spaces in names! It's not hard to implement without too much ambiguity. :) There are a few tricks I need to pull to make things like: `if x then y else z` be interpreted correctly. Fun fact: The slowness is bottlene

Hi I'm the author. I took a lot of inspiration from Soulver. I basically wanted a smarter Soulver with more programming constructs and better treatment of undefined variables. Hope you like it and OS X version will be out in a couple w

I refuse to kowtow also but rarely get into hot water. I'm curious what you're saying to these people. :-) If someone does try to assert their superiority (I'm trying to think of an example, but am having a hard time) then I tend to appeal

Educate me some more and please name a social hierarchy I belong to. I'm a pretty standard geek so feel free to make assumptions. I really want to know who my superiors are so I can call them up and apologize for treating them as equals all

Except, of course, for those few SSNs and addresses that Paul the grad student sold so he could play with a botnet. Oh, and we gave the database and algorithms over to the DoD who sponsored our work. I'm sure they won't harm any SSNs or fac

Snake oil salesman. Read the quick bio: everything revolves around him teaching how to do development, not actually leading any real projects. I worked at GM during the lean craze and read my fill of these "we should be doing it like the Ja

Guys, if you don't like clients and don't like most clients' ideas, then, uh, don't take on clients. Programmers can: 1. Work at Big, Co. and make a decent living. 2. Work on your own projects and sell them directly to consumers (App Store)

"speeds up pathfinding on uniform-cost grid maps" How useful are uniform-cost grids? Every implementation of A* I've ever used has been applied to varying-cost grids.

Yes, I take exception to my statement also. I did not actually mean anti-depressives, I was thinking of harder stuff: cocaine, heroine, meth. Very poorly worded on my part.

I like how we use the word "burnout" in place of the word "depression". When you're depressed, even the things that you used to love doing become chores. Taking a vacation isn't the right answer to depression. You have to identify and attac

Sorry, no blog entry. Snarky forum posts aside, I usually stay silent on legal matters. But I will tell you that there are a lot of us LCARS devs and more and more apps are appearing in the store.

Reminds me of the Alice Cooper scene from Wayne's World. I was raised to believe that these hedonistic punks knew only sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Learning that they were in fact professionals who intimately knew their craft (and, yeah,

Right. In this case it was 3 months worth of code. I think the analogy is closer to "we tore down this clay hut we built". Easy to build, easy to tear down. If this were a mature code base, I would be a little more shocked.
