A patent over a metadata/playlist file and various bit rate chunks of a file? Well, they don't disclose what the patent is, but bleh, its just stupid to patent crap like that :(

Yes, Adpative bit-rate is currently missing from HTML5. However, Apple has a method of doing this with entirely standard HTTP and a few metadata files, as this is how you do adaptive bitrate content on the iphone: http://developer.apple.c

HTML5 video will never be acceptable by people who believe that DRM in Video is a requirement. Fortunately, those people have over the last few years been proven more and more to be ignorant of what the wider market wants -- and the video-i

its not the same on filesystems like ext3 with ordered data mode (the default). fsync on those kind of filesystems will flush everything, not just a single file, though I believe there has been some more recent work in 2.6 to improve this b

The interesting thing about your timing is that I would expect on ext3 you would sill similar slowdowns, although perhaps they are harder to see, due to how the most common configuration of using sync=ordered behaves, which should cause eff

I guess I'm not gorking how the behavior of write() blocking when fsync is being called is considered a problem. write() is documented and well known to be a potentially blocking function, for potentially a long time. If you are writing a

yes, but that is what makes a good project design, a good separation of UI from what its doing -- its why libcurl is adopted by dozens of other projects for their http library, while wget doesn't have a properly written separate library for

a 'maintainer' is a single point of failure. build a community around a project, look at wget's main competitor, curl, for an example: http://curl.haxx.se/mail/list.cgi?list=curl-library (299 messages so far in april!)

I've hated being a USER of APIs built on frameworks that output multiple APIs, like SOAP/REST/XMLRPC all at once. You end up with unnatural APIs in the 'REST' api. Don't get caught up in the details of 'rest', focus on developing the API
