Not a very convincing criticism in my opinion. I liked the plot, but even if you don't like the plot or themes, I think the ideas, the sentences, the verbal invention and playfulness are the best things about the book. But, theme-wise,

You've read a lot more into my comment than was there. My point is simply that your abstract philosophical equivalance between Monad and God does not correspond to how most people in the real world use their concept of God.

That's fine in theory but my aunt isn't praying to Monad or declining to get her kids vaccinated because Monad will protect them.

This reminds me a bit of David Deutsch's Constructor Theory. What's the mainstream acceptance of that like at the moment? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructor_theory

The mistake you are making is that you are trying to answer the question of what the average user wants by looking at what you want. Developers are not representative of users.

I think the first few are problematic too. Which conspiracy theories? Moon landing, pizzagate, Epstein? No idea where to draw a line there. Demonstrably inaccurate? I doubt they remove young earth creationists. It seems easy at first, but i

I'm not sure what to make of this article, but on a related note: the economics of software just seems to get weirder and weirder. I guess most US developers are fairly politically liberal, although probably a good chunk are libtertari

I think a problem with this approach is that since it doesn't ask for the student's actual belief, the student might score highly but still hold beliefs that may be dangerously wrong when used in a practical situation. For example

I totally agree with this point, but there is an unavoidable anthropic counterargument, which is for the people who do in fact live in some kind of end times, this is exactly how it will seem to them too. We can't just rely on inductio

I think this is a commmon goalpost-moving strategy. The likes of Dennett et al don't deny that first-person experience is real , but rather that it is inexplicable or mysterious somehow. For the case of free will, Dennett is excellent

There is too much performative expression of concern and not enough discussion of actual factors. The problems are basically the same as for human bias, and the automation of the process gives us an opportunity to examine them transparently

Maybe a suggestion for the authors (if not already in the pipeline). Shiny offers a button in RStudio that deploys an app instantly and for free to a domain at shinyapps.io. They then charge for apps that require more data hosting or more c

This looks excellent. I'm an avid RShiny user and can't wait to try this and Dash. Is there an example for how to host (e.g. on aws or google cloud) and make an app available online?
