While we're here, any word on the supposed proof of the Collatz Conjecture that came up a couple months ago? I haven't been able to find anything about how it's holding up since.

This just seems like a matter of preference to me. It works on iOS pretty much just like it works on a desktop. It may be that some iOS users would prefer the native UI, but you could say the same for some desktop users (particularly keyboa

Has there been any study about whether standing desks are actually any better? I can easily imagine that sitting motionless for 6 hours and standing motionless for 6 hours have virtually the same effect on the body. That is, let's not be so

As far as I know, It's not known whether this is a causal relationship. It's possible that art that uses the golden ratio tends to be viewed as beautiful because of some magical aesthetic property of the GR, and that artists create art usin

Doesn't seem to work in Opera, and the attempt to open a new window just opens a new tab (which of course, is the same size as the rest of the tabs).

I imagine that even if the RIAA demanded this info, Apple would have no choice but to defend it vehemently in court. The PR backlash you'd get from backstabbing the vast majority of your paying customers cannot be overstated. And when I

I'm curious to see how well the iTunes Match feature works. Naturally it will have to use audio fingerprinting rather than just trusting user-supplied metadata. The catch is that this technology is probably based on Lala (who Apple bought o

I think the meaning was that Windows is a malware ghetto compared to Mac. More akin to a Doctor noticing that 95% of his patients are blondes and declaring that blondes tend to get sick more. The significance of this is offset by the base r

The point is that while Watson is a big step forward in language processing and information retrieval, it's unfair to conclude that he does these things as well as the best humans. Jeopardy isn't a particularly good test of these abilities

I don't suppose they had any original recipe Coca-Cola to test it against? It's hardly surprising that it would taste different since modern coke uses a different recipe.
