There's a follow-up already posted: http://dlo.me/flying-on-the-cheap/ That said, I'm not quite sure what he's trying to show. Is it what days are cheapest to travel on, or what days are cheapest to purchase the tickets? And as has been

Because the page gave it wrong. It should be 1 11 21 1211 111221 before you're asked to give more terms. And seeing this question is a sign that the interviewer is trying to feel smarter than you.

I find this "it's up to keep the stock market running" meme completely ridiculous. As far as I'm aware, the entire theory was based on the fact that it was the first website in Egypt people found that was still up, and the exchange had 4 d

Um, this problem really is that simple. If you're doing something where you really need many factorials, you use a lookup table (and probably don't call a factorial function at all), or you use a closed-form function to give an estimate.

This is an incredible stretch of what I'd take "The Ends Don't Justify The Means" to be. The whole "killing one person to save ten" thing really isn't related. The way I see it, it's about externalities. I push someone onto a train track

Specifically, for every write, it will undergo the Paxos mechanism; the writes aren't serialized through a single master.

If you require a read/write to talk to a majority of the replicas, you don't need to have a specific replica as the master to maintain consistency.

Well, if you use Google Apps and your own domain, you can point the domain at the new app after copying data over. http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/domain.html Being able to do a migration online and for the same appspot.com domain i

A reasonable thought, but wrong. The existing datastore has basically the 99.9% of the benefits you describe. Unfortunately, 99.9% availability (especially when a single datastore request may touch 10 things and thus be at 99% availabilit

While the HR datastore is designed so events like that won't happen (and it was not affected by said outage), there's no correlation between this launch and the datastore unavailability earlier today.

The basic approach is CP; if there is a sufficient network partition, writes will fail. But as long as a majority of the network is connected together, that portion of the servers will be able to function normally (though there may be some

Typical worthless purist drivel. Sure, let's throw away 25 years worth of infrastructure and progress and go back to a system where people have to dial in to a centrally controlled system via ham radios or the (corporate-owned) telephone sy

I still don't get why anybody would invest in a company at $50 billion with no knowledge of how much money they are making.

I think the whole approach with print5, print25 is the "correct" solution, but if I were interviewing I would give the best score to the person that gave system("/usr/bin/seq 1000"); as the answer.

Did somebody say bubble? From later in the article, it's a total of $2 billion, with 1.5 billion being in a special fund designed to make a mockery of SEC regulations: "As part of the deal, Goldman is expected to raise as much as $1.5 billi

I think this is a good thing. If China had the Amazon one-click patent, the entire system would have been overturned in the US Supreme Court. When you consider what's happened with pharmaceutical patents in other countries, it's not unpre
