The article seems incredibly over-dramatic of a genuinely interesting study. Saying that this is evidence of it being "more distorted than theorists expected" is irresponsible from a scientific point of view. My less-dramatic sum

This is literally Burning Man. Burning Man creates a 70000 person city in the middle of the desert from scratch every year. It's exactly what you want to prototype any number of urban design theories.

Does the EU do anything anymore other than threaten "consequences" on various countries? No wonder everybody hates it.

They're not fined for doing nothing, they're fined for willfully evading the requirements for having capital on hand through what amounts to magic tricks.

I like the idea, but it seems completely impractical. How is this possibly cheaper than boats? Also, building a floating tube in the water seems a lot harder than an elevated tube on land, because you can't possibly reach the ocean fl

This is where the "accredited investor" warnings are appropriate. Don't do this with your money if you aren't willing and able to lose it! In the long run, it's impossible for people to beat the market simply by

Do you have any arguments or just name calling? Just because the parties agree on some issues doesn't mean the system is rigged.

OK, I won't do it again, but considering that people lost large portions of their money in the past week, I'm not the least bit sorry for my comment.

I still wonder if any large tech companies (Google, Apple, etc) will endorse against Trump before November. They did on Prop 8, and Trump will similarly have an immediate negative impact on many of their employees.

The attacker. Who can't say that it's illegal to block his money, and use the lack of blocking as an argument in a court of law.

This actually has happened at both online and real casinos. In general, if the player intended to exploit an issue they knew about they have to return the money, if they randomly benefited they do not.

You're begging the question here. He's trying to use spurious legal claims to prevent cancelling the transaction. His success at that can't make his legal claims valid.

I disagree the view that somebody that advocates wife beating and rape should be considered a not-all-bad part of the community because "he finances OpenBSD".

It is clearly theft and whatever legal mumbo jumbo he provides doesn't change that. I'd personally say the claims that this is somehow legal is the con, but I agree it's not entirely clear.

IANAL but I expect that anyone admitting to this will find themselves in jail very quickly, at least in the US. The legal system isn't fond of $50 million cons based on one paragraph of legalese.

I always thought nobody had any actual plans as to how the DAO could do anything useful. Now I guess we know it won't. Either "hackers" will bankrupt it, or all the decentralization zealots will back out (and bankrupt it).

Isn't this exactly what Enron did? Use some sleight of hand to hide the fact that you're using company assets to speculate on the performance of company assets? Obviously doing that turned out very poorly for Enron.

If it looks like a scam, it's a scam. This definitely looks like a scam. I'll recommend you wait for them to prove me wrong (by, you know, actually having a physical product for sale) before arguing this point.

Good! There should be a bias against new things until the new things are proven to be correct. Optimizing science based on "what do people who want to get tenure want" seems like a great way to be bad at science.
