Actually there is a reason, at least in NYC, why artists were the advanced guard of gentrification. There was a zoning ordinance passed that made it legal to use former industrial buildings as residences if the tenant was an artist. So, in

The most annoying thing in my rapidly gentrifying neighborhood is getting yelled at for biking on the sidewalk. If there is no bike lane, and there are not commercial properties on the street, it is legal to bike on the sidewalk. Gentrifier

How come the NY Times doesn't push for unions for Wall St? Surely these guys slaving away over spreadsheets for Silicon Valley level pay should be unionized too, right?

Apparently this isn't the first time people have attempted to destroy these murals. The first time was in 1966. https://archive.org/details/communitymuralsp00barnrich/page/...

Yeah, I was going to say, they should go to where ever the local Amazon fulfillment center is. Those places are always hiring and start at $15 an hour.

According to the article, demand for the Mac Pro tapered off years ago, and they were down to "a skeleton crew". The original plant opening had some kind of tax deal for "up to 500 jobs", so even at peak it was not makin

The article reveals that the people working the Mac Pro assembly line in Texas where paid the minimum wage which in Texas is currently $7.25 an hour. When the plant closes, those guys can apply to any fast food place in Austin, and make the

Everyone is talking about the keyboards, but I want to know about the Mac Pros. I'm assuming Ive is responsible for the cylinder, but is he involved in the return to the cheese grater, or did that happen while he was off designing glas

While it's true the AI hype is getting a bit overboard, couldn't one make the argument that humans, and to a lesser extent other animals, are just a collection responses to pattern recognition like when I see a thing that looks li

Exactly. You can just swipe the corner of it like you're brushing off dust or something, and it will register as a click. It's probably less effort than having to mash down a button that far to the edge of the keyboard.

Is the whole escape key thing a joke that I'm not in on? Why don't you just use the part of the touchbar that is exactly the same as an escape key all the way down to saying "esc"? I don't get it man.

The thing is I didn't have to go into an AR community online to find opinions. Some guy at my work who isn't even a tech was giving me unsolicited snarky AR opinions.

The current crappiness of AR reminds me of the early days of MP3 players. Only a few geeks had them, and it took forever to load an album over the printer port if it didn't crash half way. Then 5 years later, everyone had an iPod.
