You're right. I tend to think about what you need to learn to actually work in a IBM Mainframe environment which is greater than just learning the language.

People who don't know COBOL, IBM Mainframe or the industry write these type of articles. You want to loose the hardware - there's a solution for that. You want to create modern web services over - there's a solution for that.

You forget the old customers have credit contracts that last 50 years which have business rules, implemented in mainframe software, which no one understands or knows. You can't migrate that way. An Insurance company can do that (contra

Depends on the country. Are in the USA? Edit: Clarification, you can't download a Mainframe VM so you need access to a Mainframe for training.

It's not a ban on DRM, just make provisions that DRM can't infringe on legal rights. In others, you can rip DVDs for private use (private copies of copyright materials) by overcoming DRM technology is now protected by the law.
