You probably should. You wouldn't give Coinbase your SSH private keys, crypto keys are no different.

99% of the things you do could be equally solved with email. But it would be a worse user experience.

American insurance is so freaky. In Nova Scotia, everyone has minimum $1 million liability coverage. Everyone also has uninsured driver coverage, to cover them if they're hit by an uninsured driver.

I would love to spend a winter at the south pole station. The biggest downside of being able to do my job remotely means I'll never get sent to cool places. :(

Unless you can reliably tie a user to their real-life identity, authentication isn't useful in this case. If a spambot tries to peer with my instance, it's not super helpful to know that their accounts will always be the same spam

Resistive electrical heating is typically the most expensive heating option available, at least here in Canada. A heat pump uses much less power to provide the same amount of heat, and fossil fuel heating (gas in the west, oil in the east)

Prediction: Any distributed social media (like Mastodon) that gains mainstream popularity will share the same fate. Sure, you'll be able to host your own Mastodon instance, but 99% of people will be on the top 10 hosts and they won

Practical experience is such a good teacher. I've been doing LeetCode problems lately, and (re-)learning about things like trees is so much faster when you see and play with code rather than taking notes while a prof explains everythin

The gatekeepers are the only meaningful barrier. The amount of content I learned in my CS degree that ended up being useful to my software development career could fit in a one-month course. Lots of writing Java out on paper (or, marginally

The biggest thing for me is no surprise bills. Sure, it's pretty unlikely that a t2.small instance and its associated storage and network subscriptions are going to produce a $1000 bill one day, but there's literally no way to set

This was one of the original use cases for crypto, before the ghouls moved in. You could pay $0.05 to sign up for an account, something that remains impossible to this day due to payment providers' transaction fees.
