My somewhat educated take on that is that 'perceptually lossless' refers to quality at which the source cannot be reliably picked from the source/encode in any sort of test that would pass as scientific, possibly outside of a few very rare

They mention 256kbps in regards to that, at which point all of vorbis, aac and mp3 (lame) are 'perceptually lossless', so it wouldn't be much new. While it is hard to tell (because tests at higher bitrates don't really work out/ produce win

$35 is just the headline price, there is shipping on top of that (taxes?). MK802 shipped @ $60[1]. So is +$20 worth that? (plus, the wait was 12 weeks when i checked a us retailer for pi) 1. http://ipadalternative.com/101-mini-pocket-pc-an

The Pi has been a great show in the perils of poor supply chain management. I woke up early on release day to try and get one, failed, continued to fail for quite a while, and never ordered one. It would cost me, in the UK, £29.50, and take

Completely agree, there is definitely a place for a lower-cost headless device with lower specs. Although no linux, the stm32f4discovery ($10, yes, ten) which is based on the cortex-m4 is also very interesting to an embedded hacker. Another

The level of funding popular KS projects are getting almost leads me to be concerned that someone is going to game the system and promise the earth, and then just run off with all the money. Which, AFAICT, would be perfectly legal.

I really don't get the level of enthusiasm for this device, and struggle to see it really taking off mainstream (which may not matter, since it's just an android box). Yes, we haven't seen an android device targeted for gaming yet, but AFAI

Personally, i find the python documentation a little overwhelming, while i found PHP's much clearer and more straightforward, despite learning PHP first. Much easier to figure out something quickly. Its hard to pin down but if i had to i'd

There is also the fact that a point upgrade in OSX is almost never as significant as a new Microsoft OS, that MS provides free service packs, and that (IIRC) apple allows upgrades to multiple macs with one purchase. So, really, they need to

I don't disagree with you, but this is the exact argument I've heard with every Microsoft OS since windows 2000 (and no doubt it was made before then, too).

I completely reject that anyone who would have paid $x for a windows upgrade has then decided not to because of the price of OSX upgrade . It's either worth it for them, or not. Lowering the price simply increases the number in the first c

Lets be clear; this has little/nothing to do with apple. You can't spend $40 to switch to the latest OSX on your regular PC, so it is just not direct competition. I can only assume they think this way is how they will get most money from se

The cost of bandwidth for US servers is little of an advantage to the tech start up (or later) world. Being outside the US doesn't make using US servers more expensive, plus, when you are the size of those you mentioned, you are multi-natio

What I would like to know is what are the expected future prices? Are they expected to continue to fall, level off, or is this expected to be a temporary low?

FWIW, although it is no doubt not an apples/apples comparison[1], todays faster SSDs (~500MB/s) have roughly the same bandwidth as pentium-era PC-66 ram, while todays faster DDR3 is >12GB/s (which i guess doubles with dual channel). So

FYI almost all synaptics touchpads (ie almost all) have supported 2-finger scrolling for years . Not even specifically multi-touch hardware needed. Update your drivers @ synaptics.

Unlikely, as the aforementioned SSD add in exists in the same depth. It is also a 3D space so the idea the whole body would need to be increased by the depth of the ram/connector is overly simplistic. If there were issues, they could have p

I struggle to see this as anything but a planned obsolescence, anti-3rd party power grab given the minute additional space required to use a replaceable RAM stick. The SSD is on an add in board, also between the main board and base.

An interesting proposition (and seemingly fiscally sound), but it misses a lot of the point of the European integration, which is long term peace in Europe. Separating Germany seems a particularly bad idea in that context.
