The lack of compilation time in Python is a false economy when you consider the cost of tacking on the type checker and the developer time spent wondering whether the type that's been annotated is accurate. Static typing is good for de

If resource leaks became a serious issue I imagine they could buy time by restarting. I'm curious what the causes were for code freezes. At Meta they would freeze around Thanksgiving and NYE because of unusually high traffic.

This is why general prediction markets need to continue to flourish. They're an antidote to bullshit. Also, ban the bettors that things wrong because they're probably just gambling addicts.

They are indeed investing into groups, but ultimately the marginal gain there is marginal. The metaverse stuff also complements (i.e. it isn't a complete pivoting away from traditional social networking) all of the other connectivity (

Could we have required that they only sell vodka, so as to target only alcoholics? Perhaps this would have just made "casual" beer drinkers into more hardcore alcoholics, though.

I stopped using alcohol this summer, after it made me sleep worse. I also dislike the idea of having it act as a crutch for personality. It was fairly easy for me to learn how to be gregarious and engaged without it.

There is often a single point of failure, but never a single point of success. If SpaceX succeeds it's because everybody came together and pulled their weight in the right direction, Elon included. It takes a lot of people for a compan

I wouldn't expect working hard to correlate with having a lot of money. Plenty of poor people work hard. I also see your point that it doesn't make somebody a leftist or even necessarily progressive to be somewhat cautious of Twi

Elon is understanding why Twitter had to seem so "woke". It turns out that "woke" consumers make for the most lucrative demographic to serve ads to. I don't believe he had to reckon with advertiser psychology to thi

It really isn't about the destination. If it were, one would just fly. To me, the elegance of rail is in its ability to travel through more secluded areas, to do so quietly, and to afford a person enough space to kick back without the

I imagine you'd have to meet the existing criteria in order to receive this option to pay. That being said, when the business's income begins to depend on this, the criteria are at risk of "softening". One could imagine

I enjoy thinking of trust as a social technology. We've seen how ridiculous a trustless transaction system would look with Bitcoin having to validate things to a ridiculous extent. Similarly, a society that distrusts wastes a lot of ti

I'm pretty confident that the metaverse will happen. That doesn't mean that we'll all be using "Horizon Worlds" or whatever, but rather that VR and AR will become popular by 2035. The general public is insufficientl

GTA IV was my favorite for this. I'd expect this to be hard to achieve since verisimilitude is expensive, but manageable if your character is only going to go down a fixed path.

The solution is not to care about breaking customers that depend on implementation details. If every interface author had this policy then I'm sure people would write better code.

I think it's worth mentioning that price is only one way to allocate the scarce resource. What strikes me as better socially and for the liveliness of the audience is to offer discounts to the top 25% of fans, as determined by Spotify

I think remote work is here to stay. There are too many people who insist on it, and will move jobs for it. The downsides you mention are valid, but rampant offshoring will be mitigated because of reasons pertaining to culture, language, an
