The key travel on those keyboards is phenomenal. How do you not injure yourself? Who is still using non-laptop style keyboards and why? :/

> "vile and almost certainly illegal description" Lighten up. Move on. Stop being offended by words. Downmod it or upmod it if you care. Move on. If you get offended by words the internet isn't the place for you.

> "vile and almost certainly illegal description" I'm pretty sure it didn't really happen. Or are you claiming that the act of describing a fictitious event is illegal?

I think the first one was a bit misplaced, although the last line of it made me chuckle. Maybe it's just someone pointing out the banality of a "Tell us your naughty stories" thread. I agree it should be flagged though. It's just boring spa

I'd bet they would in theory get far higher margins if anyone did subscribe to their online paper. Also they get to look like they're ahead of the curve. I'm just saying, it's hardly an unbiased opinion of where things are headed.

OK, why? I can't imagine it being very much more exciting that flying in a plane. Perhaps you'll get a nice view of the earth, but what else? edit: Yes, you could just downmod me, or you could explain why you're excited about being able to

...which is one newspaper in one particular country, who are betting (stupidly) on digital distribution. Does it not surprise you that they're betting their money on a paywall site, and proclaiming that print newspapers will die? Of course

If you want the experience, you can already get it through other means. I think this is all about dick waving. Rich people who want to boast they've been into space.

Yes but good coders figure a way around it. Forced to use PHP? And it's crappy and slow to build stuff in? So write some tools that compile to PHP. What I'm saying is that great programmers work with the limitations and build the tools they

> "With print newspapers set to disappear in the next few years," I stopped reading after that. I'm sorry, but if you're going to start basing the rest of the article on crazy false projections, there's not going to be a lot of point.

It's UK based. Both 'junk' and 'trunk' are rarely used words in the UK.

and if an engineer moans and moans about his tools, and refuses to work in anything but his favorite language, I would say he's an absolutely terrible engineer. Great programmers can make great stuff using anything.

There's simply no way they're making anywhere near that from advertising. I would even have a hard time they're making that a year from advertising.

Just look at the recent IE9 debacle. It was an 'ask me anything'. What MS responded with was crappy marketing speak, which would have worked on 'normal' people. Normal people would have swallowed it up. But Reddit did not - ie they are hard

Come now. Those stats are pie in the sky. If Quantcast said Reddit was mainly Conservative would you believe it? The community is heavily liberal anti consumerism pro drugs pro adblock college kids.

Don't forget also that a large portion of Reddit users are college kids, and people with very low amount of disposable income. As I say though, volunteering to view ads doesn't make them a better more marketable demographic - Anti-consumeri

What? You're saying they're making 40k (hosting costs) + all salaries from advertising? I find that incredibly hard to believe. Like impossible to believe.

That's not really the issue. The fact they have adblock installed makes them the type of demographic that's hard to monetize. Whitelisting Reddit doesn't magically make them a better demographic.

I think it depends on definition of 'geek'. I doubt many hackers use twitter. It's for self promotion mainly, or consuming that promotion (Being a fan). Something I don't think most hackers are interested in.
