My Father-in-law was a Vietnam Vet, an older one who had been in the military for awhile and made a career out of it. I believe he retired in 1978, he passed several years ago. My wife was born after he retired and he spoke very little abou

Not sheer evil. They don't see people, just assets. If you have poor performing assets, you get rid of them. If you find a use for assets that is potentially more productive, why wouldn't you use them that way even if it destroys

All taxes are passed on is a very simplistic view. Do I pass the taxes on to my employer when I negotiate salary? Probably to some extent, but this is like saying all cubes are squares and calling it good enough. EDIT: typo

Company doesn't owe me, but needs to meet my expectations of they want me to stick around. I'm always surprised when companies can't understand their high turnover.

I've had to change jobs in the past. A sudden job loss would be difficult; but I would have moved on if they hadn't given me the adjustment. I'm still getting offers that are similar to my new pay. Once I spun up my jobs netw

Yeah, nobody gives raises anymore. The only place ever got raises, they were tied to a union contract that just happened to benefit me (a non-member). Every other place would give bonuses or 1% "raises" that didn't cover the

I noticed where the writer found out they were the lowest paid person. This is how the wealthy class really keep people from moving up. Your pay is forever tied to what you used to make. It's hard enough to break the circuit in your mi

Just like there are rule for overtime pay, there should be well documented rules for comp-time and on-call. Companies handle these all sorts of ways, but people should not be expected to give away tons of time.

I like the idea of bootable usb, but 9 times out of 10 it's easier for me to do a PXE boot to an iso. I have a linux computer setup to provide the PXE boot stuff in my lab. I used to have a vmware player image that would run pxe boot o

The windows installer iso never works. You have to build a bootable PE environment and then have a folder with the install files to run.

We're required to provide screen shot images for system audits. Since somehow those are harder to manipulate (much laughter). And... that command doesn't work for me when I'm using ssh to access my servers or using x2go.

It's pretty asinine to pretend these entry level jobs teach anyone anything. Let it be automated. The kids that are hard-working and poor will find something else to do. You don't have a right to exploit kids.

You know how people avoid being impacted by a business going bankrupt? They don't take jobs there. Jobs at more stable places are available and people will take them. The businesses need to fail or be sold.
