I'm spotting a pattern here. All the comments so far suggest that I need to explain what the site does. I guess after working on it for so long I developed a blind spot. Thanks for the input.

I submitted the same site in November last year - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=902172 . Since then I've gone through several point releases, a refactor and a design overhaul (I'm hopeful it won't be compared to a domain parking pag

Agreed, a few quick videos showcasing the potential and fun of the application would go a long way to making it more appealing and approachable.

Maybe because politicians obsess on selling the features of their "tough on crime" policy versus the benefits of the rehabilitation such as lower re-offending rates and cheaper execution. It's an easier sell and doesn't take much explanati

And there's nothing wrong with your approach as far as I'm concerned. It's appreciated that you are as up-front about your strategy when many aren't but it does affect how I come to your articles.

I think we need to view maxklein's blog posts through the prism of what he's setting out to achieve. He has mentioned a few times that he's in a "notoriety building" phase (my words, not his) with a view to exploiting that at a later date.

This is a constant issue for me. I get excited by good design - it scratches a purity/elegance/zen itch in me. Can recreate it? No chance. I've even had one of my sites defined by one HN user as "...like a domain parking page".[1] To lo

Can anyone fill me in a little political leanings/background of semana.com (the source of the story)? It's a Columbian magazine, but that's about all I know.

Unless they're from London, in which case you asking for a pony could be interpreted as asking for £25... you're selling yourself short. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_slang

My understanding was that the point being argued was over whether the removal of the hay bales constituted continuation of the building project - which resets the 4 year time window - or if it was unrelated. Given that the only reason the h

A by-product of this idea is the size new market it opens up. Not only does it allow adults without bank accounts to get involved but now kids - previously without means of easy online payments - can start making payments (or should I say,

1. Really? I have to hold my hand up on this one. It's a product of a $30 Wordpress theme and my below par design skills. That's useful feedback. 2. Yes that's the point of the site and something I'm actively working on. More accurately,

You're right, I'm having to work with restrictions imposed by the Amazon API. I think I could probably tighten up the process a little more though. I wonder how much use an author page might be - similar gender breakdown stats but for the

Yeah, that would be pretty interesting and could be the foundations of some sort of personalized reccommendation functionality.

At the moment I'm steering away from the idea of pre-population. My reason is that if I can streamline, streamline, streamline (as you rightly suggest) the process of adding a site it it hopefully won't be too much of a burden for the user

If you're asking whether a restaurant can appear on the front page more than once the answer is yes. People can vote for a place multiple times (once per week). So if the restaurant is voted on enough it can appear near the top of the lis

Of course - that's the plan. We're London only for now as we work things out. Once it's fairly stable we should be able to roll out to other cities pretty rapidly.
