You can't submit apps built against the beta SDK to the app store. So in many cases, there is no way for the developer to remedy the situation until Apple deems a particular release candidate as The One, at which point they start accep

With the "old" compose UI, you can/could click the box-with-arrow button to transition into a new browser tab or window. Solves the same problem without trying to re-invent windows in HTML. I'm guessing this didn't

I'm fairly sure that's not right. If listening to Metal has taught me anything, Perkele is a Pagan god/the Christian devil. I suspect the EU legal texts that Google uses to train its translator don't use the phrase very

The question is not so much "where is NUMA effective," but, "given that for highest speeds memory needs to be attached directly to the CPU, how do we deal effectively with the case of multiple CPUs?" If you want multi-so

You should at least be able to control that with regular CPU affinity from software.

All modern CPUs have memory controllers built in as opposed to using a distinct "northbridge" chip. The RAM attaches directly to the CPU socket (or soldered BGA). In multi-socket systems, this means there are memory buses coming o

Except there are Thunderbolt-to-PCIe enclosures, which come with their own set of problems (latency, hotplugging, I/O memory range allocation, bandwidth, not to mention cost). But I guess Apple can just say "we don't support

The Mac pro only has one CPU because that's all they could fit in. I suspect the real reason is that Apple still {can't be bothered|can't figure out how} to add NUMA support to OS X. The existing 2-socket Mac Pros have been

For better debugging and diagnostics, I like my macros to do as little as possible. Plus, if the generated code is the same for all types apart from an offset calculation, duplicating it is silly. If you look at the slist, slist_queue and d

I'm not a fan of macros either, which is why I've ended up implementing hybrid C data structures, with the logic in functions, and some optional type helpers in macros: https://github.com/pmj/genccont Anyway,

I had that problem a few years ago, and it turned out to be a precursor to the adapter failing altogether. I got it replaced under warranty and the new one has been working fine for years. So it might be worth trying to get yours replaced.

Yeah, I've noticed the same in Southern Africa. By 8-9pm I was always totally ready to go to sleep, and I'd actually be pretty happy to get up at 4:30~5:00am. Although we had artificial lighting, it was fairly low-wattage incandescent. Duri

As far as I know, this is exactly the rationale, actually. Say you have: struct a { int a;} struct b { int b;} struct c : a, b { }; c myc; c* p1 = &myc; b* pb1 = p1; // correctly points to myc's base b, which is offset

I have to say I'm rather skeptical - the author doesn't say anything about installing the special "late 2012" version of OSX 10.8.2[1] which supposedly contains the functionality. Moreover, as far as I can tell, he's just combined the two d
