They have become boring so there are less blogs about them. Thats good. The documentation for eg RabbitMQ is much better and very helpful. People use it as a workhorse just like they use Postgres/MySQL. There’s not much surprising beha

I have to admit that I agree with you. The letter gives many reasons for the decisions made but it seems to me like the most salient one is their funding situation. When funding was plenty, people didn’t need to worry about it too much. In

Omg. This is so fucking awesome. Ive worked at jobs where we had to setup kube clusters. It is so fucking hard to do this for nontrivial setups. You frequently don’t have access to abstractions that are taken for granted by kube users. This

I have used Azure, AWS and GCP. The only reason people use Azure is because others force them to. It’s an extremely shitty cloud product. They pretend to compete with AWS but aren’t even as good as GCP.

It’s probably because implementing such safeguards wouldn't help anyones promo packet. I really dislike that most of our major cloud infrastructure is provided by big tech rather than eg infrastructure vendors. I trust equinix a lot mo

I highly doubt this was the reason. Google has similar deletion protection for other resources eg GCP projects are soft deleted for 30 days before being nuked.

There are a lot of think tanks that thrive in an environment of increased tensions. Theres a lot of projection going on. It only gets dangerous when the leaders buy into the paranoia… which unfortunately seems to be happening.

The only thing missing from the article is what would be a good response to this policy. Tariffs seem like a very suboptimal solution. It seems highly unlikely that manufacturing at the scale needed to replace China is possible domestically

Apparently the error seems to be with the managed VMWare integration. They have my sympathies: it can be really hard to get products from external parties to work just as well as the “native” product ie gce. Even if they do fix this particu

Sorry but what else can someone outside these orgs do in this case? There’s really no way to know unless the companies involved give us more info, and the author seems to have done a great job in presenting a possible scenario.

American corporations are great at retooling their business/supply chains for different products (see how quickly everyone moved into hard seltzers). I do expect big tobacco to move in aggressively if weed is made legal.

This was in 2017 before a lot of tech moved to ATX. Back then it was IBM, Rackspace and a few startups + remote folks. Oracles offers were incredulously low even at that time.

Austin will continue to grow. Texas is the second largest US state by size and economy, and Austin is where the left leaning tech folks generally tend to go when they are considering Texas based opportunities. Personally it feels overhyped.
