I don't use a touch screen or a pen. It's fully supported on windows 8 and I stuck my Samsung 840 Pro in it. It does however have a decent keyboard, a trackpoint, 3G card, a service reputation and a bomb proof chassis. All of whic

I still can't get my head round paying for one of these at £1000+ when it's effectively disposable if anything goes wrong. I bought a used i7 Lenovo T410 a couple of weeks back for £150. Totally serviceable and the battery it came

I'm not worried about the EM or the disposal costs both environmental and commercial, but about the incredible amount of distractions and maintenance these devices take. There was a time back a few years ago, before the "big Inter

My word that article triggered my bullshit detector instantly. Cloud, fog, internet of things, big data, smart, edge computing. Ugh.

They're hardly innocent or desirable either. They devour everything in sight right up to the size of bees including things that eat mosquitoes and they bring parasites when they migrate between bodies of water which kill things that ea

Simpler solution: stick a tiny bit of soap in the water. Not much at all. Doesn't hurt aquatic life but breaks the surface tension which kills the mosquito rafts dead as they sink straight away. Source: I live next to a sewage farm.

I wish more people used RPN calcs. In my EE course in the UK in the 1990s, I was the only person with an HP calc (HP41c and later a 48S). Everyone else was TI and Casio.

Asking the Linux foundation for support is interesting. I'm sure that will in itself cause a few problems. Good work though all round.

Not quite as disastrous but when I was at university the resident administrators configured the entire site's tftp server (everything was netbooted Suns) to boot from the network. This was fine until there was a site-wide power blip an

Yeah the nationalised healthcare here in the UK sucks. Last night my wife got seen by an emergency dentist at 21:45 an it cost £18.50 ($31). My grandmother was on the waiting list for her hip replacement for 11 days and that cost... $0 I br

Great stuff. I used a BBC Master up until 1999 as a serial terminal for a Sun machine. The thing was an electronics and experimenters dream: well documented, built in decent BASIC and assembler and ports galore plus if you blew it up, £5 wa

You can replace the battery easily. It requires a Torx T4 driver. Its not soldered or glued in. Just pop the back off, undo some screws, undo the battery ribbon and repeat in reverse.

I own a Moto G and am not totally happy with it. I replaced a Lumia 820 with it. The big problems for me are the camera is awful, I mean really bad. It's that bad I've started dragging my DSLR with me. Also the WiFi is terribly un
