I’ve seen it used in backend systems processing lots of small events. Never noticed any python/pypy difference. I guess it can be used for many things but package selection is smaller and most people don’t know about it. I’ve also hear

Often it’s enough to compile in debug mode and maybe set an env var! This sounds like a horrible approach by all measures I think.

Absolutely, I’ve yet to see something that works offline (I’m sure it’s technically feasible). But «so what» - few modern day apps do much use when offline.

Valid points. I was also thinking about apt install-ing some C library, try to pip install a package, have it fail to build, look for headers/debug packages in apt, set LD_LIBRARY… you know. It hurts, a lot. And yet, python is a fantas

I work as a developer / consultant. Sometimes I show «install as desktop app» on Edge/chrome on windows and people are genuinely surprised, and don’t know about it. I’d bet the conscious usage is very low. Chrome(OS) and others mi

This is the truth right here. The issues are with people using (not officially) deprecated tools and workflows, plus various half baked scripts that solved some narrow use cases.

My biggest gripe is that some Azure stuff seems to be available only through powershell, which is hard to install and configure (I think) in certain corporate policy-infested environments.

Do you have any accessible references on state machines? I’ve just read about them a bit but never coded one in a project. Seems like a useful concept for testable, reliable code.

I had the same issue. I solved it real easy by keeping a python/sql script to create the db, which was VIEWs over parquet files, similar to the article although with local files. The sql syntax is stable so this works great. Creating a

I sure hope noone claimed that. You’re doing potentially huge dimensionality reduction, uniqueness would be like saying you cannot have md5 collisions.

Indeed - a classic «upping the game» is to prove two bounds, then determine an exact value because you somehow get the bounds to intersect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squeeze_theorem?wprov=sfti1

Here’s my take: the simple reason this topic is coming up more and more, is that new monitors are brighter and sharper than old ones. It’s more (un)comfortable than ever with a bad theme.
