I’ve never encountered a compiler that needed ALL CAPS. I guess some people saw old code and just emulated that.

For some reason, a lot of fortran programmers insist on screaming, even though it’s been optional for 3 decades. I mostly program in python these days...

Fortran has had pure functions and subroutines since well before any of the cool languages. Not that I recommend it in particular.

This is a very valid point. You should include now-defunct companies, as current investors can’t tell whether a company goes bankrupt next year.

Absolute numbers could be up, even if relative share is down. Intel reported growth in fortran compiler sales, but python does grow more, so relative numbers are what you expect.

I figured this benefit would be much greater in a public-facing repo. After all, there’s often a few commits fixing minor linting errors etc just before the final merge. Rebasing these away is reducing noise by alot. Rebasing on master/

If you’re getting TSV files from an external source and are interested in just some aggregate results, you’ll get better performance by computing the smaller results and storing these than if you first import, then process, then delete the

The RAW format is probably using e.g zlib for compression internally. You can check by calculating how many bytes in total a truly raw image is: 12-16 bits (1.5-2 byte) per pixel.

You can certainly get delta-v with drag. You’ll keep bleeding energy from orbital (kinetic plus potential) to atmospheric heat, but that’s an entirely different thing.

I find it fascinating that the word «quisling» was already in use, coined after the Norwegian traitor from WW2.

Personally, I’ve never noticed bugs, but the performance characteristics are truly weird. If you fill up a large partition, expect using a few days of running various incantations to free space, even after removing plenty of files. I’m comp

In some consulting businesses, managers want similar up to date documents / CV when marketing consultants externally to prospective customers. E.g which projects you’ve worked on etc.

The biggest hurdle for fusion power is, ultimately, how to deal with the neutrons. These particles are electrically neutral and their trajectories are unaffected by electromagnetic fields. The approach so far is to put a «blanket» around th

Scientific cameras with 16 bit ADCs will usually, in my limited experience, have active cooling, eg a peltier element and some fans. Otherwise, 12 bit is probably enough.

No way. A lot of topics are not yet covered, and a lot of people are not yet listening. With a larger audience comes more $, and with more $ comes better content, over time. I’d guess we are at a time when competition sets in, and (some of)

A lot. Large parts of the world’s «farm area» is land used for grazing and may not be suitable for monoculture farming. I don’t know if this applies to the meat found in your particular neighbourhood, though.

Stop using pesticides. Gardening uses more chemicals per area than farming by at least an order of magnitude, as people don’t care about cost. It’s not something that will solve everything, but it’s a thing you can do, now.
