I use, or have used, vim bindings in vscode, visual studio on windows, etc etc. Sometimes you run across large ascii files, e.g csv data files, and vim is the only editor that can open them. Vim is available virtually everywhere you have a

Great find! But why on earth is there no mention of git, or the other VCSes? IMHO they’re a huge reason for using plaintext for more purposes.

My experience is that I’ve used libreoffice to convert unreadable .doc 2003 files to working .docx documents. In these (admittedly few) cases, (a more recent version of) word could not read the .doc files in a meaningful fashion.

Static arm rotated outwards. Dynamic movement would be great but the arm tends to get stuck out there for some time. Might apply more to photoshoppers and less to vim users though.

It’s not about travel time, but shoulder movement. I moved to left hand mouse partly for this reason.

Unlike most big data solutions, dask is just so convenient. I sometimes use it just to concatenate a bunch of files into a dataframe. And yet, it scales up to really large datasets, too.

How was it a fiasco? The old version was supported for free for what, a decade? Usage of python is skyrocketing. I don’t know anyone who honestly prefer 2 over 3. The number of python packages released in one year now is probably higher tha

It’s very easy to shoot yourself in any body part - just disable array bounds checking, drop modules (which means no function call interface checks) and you’re practically back to C-land in terms of memory safety. Of course, the sensible th

I bike in rain, fog, sleet, snow, and -20C. Get wool underwear and a raincoat + pants. It’s a habit, so I just get up in the morning and do it. Oh, and I have a child seat and a trailer, so I bring all 3 kids to kindergarden, too. I did get

I completely agree. I still keep vim nearby, as it’s everywhere, fast on large data files, and has some power tools for editing plain text that «code editors» just don’t have.

It would be great if the article could recommend some convenient packages for solving such problems. I’ve had some luck with the GNU linear programming kit, GLPK, myself.

Other WWII issues and ethics aside, it puts you ahead when other people wage war and you’re busy doing business. War was huge economic loss for the neighbours, and Switzerland was staying in peace.

On hacker news, people are interested in hacking. I don’t know rust so that adds a barrier to entry for me, but might be nice for a rust programmer.

Are you sure the old hardware is capable of supporting Airplay? I thought it didn’t have the processing power required. Except for Airplay my several years old speakers work fine. I’m happy with the support so far.

Follow conventions. Python’s click library is great in this respect, reading its docs is useful. Having —help and —version flags; -s and —long options (one dash for short, two for long); etc.
