Very good argument for having that in the python language, that is true. It’s an even bigger ask, though. In Fortran you often need such data structures to keep track of results or to do IO. It’s a pain and I’ve so far not seen a usable lib

I think numpy is mostly great. Although I do agree - numpy should be in the stdlib, period. So many users come from the scientific/data/simulation communities. It’s just that there are no (or too few) core devs from that tradition

I have «relativenumber» but I’ve never touched swapfile. Otherwise I have the same 5. Funny - I often felt vim’s defaults are almost intentionally archaic.

Personally I don’t think it is stable enough for a long lived service. But opinions differ. Might be worse if the author reinvented pandas manually, too.

You’ll instead be stuck with devs who ramble on about how the old stuff is best and who needs try/catch and goto is faster than loops etc.

What does “connect” mean in this context? Read data from SQL server into an excel spreadsheet?

For SQL server, AWS can save their customers money by cutting license cost (to MS). MySQL is already free so I don’t see how they can benefit from such a project.

I heard 10 years ago, or whatever, that the ipad 2 had the most power efficient CPU available, period. This was told at a keynote by an HPC scientist who cannot be said to be a «apple journalist». Apple have been doing well for a very long

We have 1 car and 2 electric bikes rather than 2 cars. If you can reduce your car count, anything is worth it, give or take.

The battery on my bike is perhaps 2 kg with the bike in total perhaps 26 ish. Removing the battery does not help except for hosing down a dirty bike or preventing theft of the battery.

To take control of other people’s content and, by extension, revenue streams? Performance was a selling point to the web dev - me, as a user of the web, was never even asked my opinion, and I can’t (easily) disable amp.

The author refers to install time, not build time. I thought pip did not run code when installing .whl files? A —-wheels-only option would then be useful.

I’d just like to say thanks for working on vega-lite. I haven’t used it much, but it will change the world to a slightly better place. Dear sw devs who are doing visualization: please do have a look at vega-lite, even if you can’t use it fo

Github (might depend on settings) refuse to merge if your branch is out of date. Rebasing on master re-triggers CI/CD. Might cause lots of waiting for this case...

Pihole is great for stopping stuff that’s not in the browser in particular. OS telemetry, in-app ads, phishing sites, etc. In pronciple I suppose it can block cryptoviruses, but it’s probably hard to keep a good blocklist up to date.

Definitely. I was totally put off by wsl1 when I could apt install foo, but foo wouldn’t run because shim X was missing. For one, no haskell based apps was working in the beginning, full stop. I also had problems with git-lfs losing files s

Browsers need a plugin API to allow user interface modifications without allowing user data and network access - somehow. Could be useful for many cases, including accessibility, I imagine.

I warmly recommend codecombat.com, which has both free and paid, python and js offerings, and more goodies like teacher/class setups. Oh, and it’s a game, which is fun and motivating in its own right.
