This is where I’m at too. By the time we fully automate software engineering, we definitely will have already automated marketing, sales, customer success, accountants, office administrators, program managers, lawyers, etc. At that point it

You have explained that managers are in fact people and what value you think engineering managers provide to an organization. You have not addressed the commenter’s assertion that >= 14% of managers do nothing. You may have even bolstere

Must depend on where you work…In my career I’ve seen loads of people fired for underperformance or being hard to work with.

Kids used to be seen as a way to increase quality of life. They were free labor and a retirement plan all rolled into one. They still are seen as a way to increase quality of life but in a more vibey sort of way.

That would imply drug addiction rates have increased with unhoused rates, but AFAIK they haven’t. The big difference is the loss of cheap SRO housing. It used to be easy to find a flop house to stay in for $50 a month. Very unglamorous but

How much of that wealth is tied up in home equity? Unless people want to move into their dead parents houses you have millions of millennials trying to sell their dead parents houses to each other, but no one can afford to buy them, and the

I don’t see how prop drilling is an anti pattern. Passing data around via props is a feature of the library, it’s totally fine if you need to pass a lot of props. If you really have too many props or need to widely disperse the same prop yo

What do you mean “gaming the system”? The companies ask that candidates learn how to solve algorithm problems and the candidates do it. I would call it “everyone playing a game they agreed to play by the rules they agreed to play with.” And

Ehh I’ve seen the opposite line of thought too. People with kids and mortgages crave stability and aren’t trying to job hop every 18 months.

Elementary schools close at 3pm. No longer can you just take a break mid-day to pick them up because you’re stuck at the office until 5. Lots of daycares close by 6pm. Good luck leaving the office, commuting, picking up the kid on time.

The last 2 companies I’ve worked at (one massive one tiny) both didn’t use any framework. Engineers/PMs/Managers worked together to figure out what to build and the engineers built it. The only “tool” was trust and it worked out f

You’ll get much more out of a good therapist than a book. A good therapist isn’t just there to help you work through past trauma or personal issues, they can also help with all your interpersonal interactions and relationships.

You should try telling all of this to a therapist and see what they have to say.

Buddy good luck getting an Equinox. That car is going to be vaporware for at least the next year and if you do manage to find one the dealer markup will be 10k over MSRP. And the “around 30k msrp” they quoted is so far a wish and dream. Che

With the Bolt gone the cheapest EV you can get is around 35k with most being 40k+ Lots of great, reliable gas options under 25k. When there are EV choices at reasonable prices there will be tons of demand for them.
