I want to give Gentoo another go. I do wish there was an installer though - I don't want to config everything out the gate. Ideally, I'd get my software on with default USE flags, then try recompile with small changes here and the

Adding to the pile of "KDE have been great to work with". Community is friendly and professional. Answers usually work. Lots of attention on user experience and stability.

You're making assumptions about my motive and experience, and have sadly misinterpreted the point I was attempting to make. I am a little disheartened by your interpretation. My aggravation is not because I have had a bad experience wi

Hard disagree with the sentiment of this author. Maths is cool on an aesthetic level AND maths is a tool that people should learn regardless of their interest in it. If you want to give people a liberal education in maths, fantastic, do it,

Who is this Sam guy? He yells a lot and while he has identified some interesting points, he also seems very... Alarmist. Is there a reason this post deserves attention beyond its content?

This is extremely ballsy by RHEL so you know what, I am in support of it. Will it work? Idk their client base. But its cool they're trying it.

Metallurgy for the steel industry sounds like a cool experience. If its not too much of an ask, can you talk a little more about what kind of stuff you do for it? Daily tasks, favourite recent projects, etc?

Materials Engineering always struck me as something very interesting. Are there many big employers in this space nowadays? How does one break into the field?

>"Many people appreciate the work" This felt like an addition to ward of anticipated backlash. As if the author was aware their point might not be received favourably. Hmmm. I reject the argument that this term is bad because i

While I agree with the goal of 'good journalism' I also want to posit that striving for objectivity is importantly distinct from being objective - which I think you agree with based on this most recent comment.

The issue with objective truth in the platonist sense is that no one can know what it is without total system knowledge, which is physically impossible (if you disagree with that last bit, Heisenberg would love to know your location to hbar

Sincere question: why do we consider "news" objective in this context? By any other measure it isn't. Edit: getting a lot of down votes but not a lot of discussion below. This isn't just a "whatever maaaaaan I'

Heh, ironic that a user named cyberpunk is defending the corporate default. Advocating for change is not invalidated by hypocritical details. Don't be that guy.

Nix is not a "required skill" by any means, but it fixes a very annoying problem that you may-or-may-not face related to dependency conflicts. NixOS also has atomic updates. I think calling it hipster is a bit odd. Its not like I

Very disheartening. While I have more hope for 1Password than most, at the end of the day, user activity data isn't needed, and this just feels like a start to get more data later.

I reject the premise that OP dislikes the product because it succeeded, instead of their stated reasons. Also, saying 'no, this is why you think what you do' is not cool.

Ah yes, the classic corporate footgun. I am sure power users who are alienated will most definitely stay quiet and not complain to their peers, damaging the reputation of a once reliable tool. This has never happened before after all. :

I am not sure I agree with this assessment. A tirade isn't the first response and it deserves attention and a degree of empathy, but it is unprofessional almost universally. You generally don't need to do it (it is not competitive

Oh I like OpenSUSE! Been a while since I used it though. I've been meaning to look into a few things for that distro such as its secure boot implementation and mandatory access control defaults, but I've just not got around to it.
