I wonder if that's why I lost DNS yesterday? I had 1.1.1.1 set up as my home network upstream DNS. Lots of caching, but maybe I still hit the limit? Went back to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and all is good again.

The assumption behind your entire post is that temporarily putting people in prison for drug use limits their use. I'm pretty sure it just makes people do drugs where you can't see them. That's probably good enough for most f

Matrix is more like a state synchronization service than a way to send messages. If I join a room on another Matrix server, my server will begin maintaining a copy of that other sever for me to use how I like. If I shut my server down for a

My guess is that they want to stop bots from creating Google accounts once and for all. I don’t see them putting DRM on YouTube. That would break every app everywhere, and many of them can never be updated. Most could never be updated to th

The more you think about it, the more you realize that most people's vacations are to places where they don't have to drive everywhere. People get on cruises because "they have everything". Disneyland is just walking aro

You're not really disagreeing with me. "Fluctuations in supply and demand" can cause there to be "too much money in the system". If supply drops, for example, there's too much money chasing too few goods. Same

Inflation means there’s too much money in the system. You can pull it out with high interest rates (every bank loan is more money in circulation), which hurts everyone who doesn’t have money, or you can raise taxes, hopefully mostly on the

Encrypted messages in large groups is such a hard problem, and, not to be crass, but is it worth solving? If I have 287 people on a group chat, how is that private, no matter the security? It seems like any adversary should be able to inser

Pijul has always fascinated me. It’s like the holy grail of version control. But for my personal projects, I develop in a straight line anyway, and I’m not in control of what’s used at work, so I’ve never really used it.

What do you like about Slackware? Is it super bare bones? Have they resisted Systemd? If that’s it, why not something like Void? Are “packages” really just tarballs that you extract into /? I have so many questions! Haha

I like a good starting point. All these things let you tweak them to your heart's content. AstroVim plus 20 lines of customization is my ideal Rust IDE. Really takes away my motivation to burn a couple weekends doing it all myself.

Relying on a coat for survival is very different from relying on an HVAC system. One has no moving parts, requires no external inputs, and is routinely handed out for free to those who can’t afford them.
