You sound like a fellow Sway user. I switched too for a bit, as it’s the new blessed terminal, but I had a couple glitches in a TUI app and switched back. Not really sure what I could have really gained by switching. They are both great.

In the age of Vim being a full IDE, these kinds of things only become more important.

Oh wonderful. 15 minutes to get the page, put down my beer, get on my computer, sign in to everything, get 2-factored 3 times AND figure out exactly what’s happening and fix it.

That statement is just one of a million in the "calculus does not exist" realm, and is not nearly as interesting as this article was. EDIT: apologies for the tone; came off very snide on second read.

Valve may be the single greatest asset to desktop Linux at this point (after Redhat, possibly), and it would be such a shame to have all that destroyed.

I'm saying that installing and removing packages is equivalent to not installing them at all, not that if your boyfriend leaves you, uninstalling LibreOffice should undo it.

I think the definition should be: Installing any number of packages, then removing them in any order, at any future point(s) in time, is equivalent to never having installed them at all. This leaves some distros out, but I feel like it’s th

NixOS has a desktop installer now. If they had an easy way to setup Flathub and turn on auto updates, it would be as user-friendly as Silverblue. I actually have several family members on it, since I can do that first post-install setup.

Yeah, but sometimes I do want to search a project within 5 minutes of opening it. IntelliJ and it’s indexing, even when you had the project open 30 minutes ago, drives me crazy. Alternatives are good.

Neovim plus the Rust treesitter thing is really good. Intellij has work to do before they are worth paying for. Which is great! I love competition. Kotlin is probably my favorite language to program in, but I hate how it locks you in to a s

Oh interesting. I assumed that since even Nix has a hard-coded /bin/sh, it must be required. Probably _essentially_ required.

It absolutely _feels_ like there's an anti-EV campaign to pump out FUD concerning tires. First it was long-tailpipe stuff, but that didn't really gain much traction (har har), so we're on to the next one. Not saying it's

The Bolt starts under 20 grand after rebates. There is exactly _one_ gas car that cheap, and it'll probably be gone after this model year. Besides, beginning to not sell gas cars five years from now isn't exactly "leaving mos

Gnome and KDE have kinda nailed it, don’t you think? I mean, what are you going to bring to the table by writing a stacking window manager? There are infinite ways to tile windows; one way to stack them.

This is the first I’ve heard of a “kill ring” thing, and it sounds wonderful. Pasting in Vim is generally a PITA because I always cut some word, then delete something to make room for it, which is itself another cut, and then I have to reme

I almost always have something more than “thanks” to say. Like, “Good point about the enfabulator, I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks.” Or, “Oh yeah, I will have to try that way. Seems very promising. Thank you.”

I wish there was such a thing as an in-window heat exchanging ventilator. Yes, I can just run the heater, but I shouldn’t have to. And punching a whole in my wall to install something permanent is so… permanent. And expensive!

Not only that, but horrible maintainability is also proof of difficulty. If something requires multiple engineers to babysit, 24-7, then certainly that's not something inherent in the design, it's inherent in the problem.
