I wonder if two prime numbers evolved as a way to make this as rare as possible.

Yup. It's all 100% automatic. Just use a different name for the thread pool and you're done, I believe.

I’m the principal maintainer at work of a couple hundred bash scripts that use httpie and jq. I don’t have a huge appetite to redo that work… but this certainly seems nicer!

I’m currently running a T460p and another random Lenovo from like 10 years ago. They both work great. But if I was buying a new one, I’d probably give System76 a try. I know it’s Clevo, but they also appear to have gotten pretty good lately

Java 21, and I assume like every scripting language (Ruby, Python, etc). Though I guess with scripting you can't use more than one OS thread (not totally sure). Rust started off with it, and C# tried it too, but there are huge downside

Go is in this weird middle ground where it's modeled after C, so it's got things like no enums, return codes for errors, mutable everything, nulls, and pointers (that don't support arithmetic, so it's really just this &q

Exactly. If you have a “dashboard” that you have to use more than a couple times a week, you’re doing it wrong. Well, in my opinion, at least.

Water gets really complicated, legally, going back to the Romans. Water being on your property doesn’t really mean much. Imagine if you were allowed to buy 100 feet next to a river and damn it, for example.

A “naive generalization”? Use words because they are the right words, not because they make you sound smart. “Vehemently” disagree with something important. I am not worth a word that strong! I’ve lived around cars every one of my 42 years.

Friendly reminder that cities aren't loud, cars are loud. Any measure of city loudness is just "which cities have the most traffic".

This is a real “why didn’t I think of that” moment for sure. So many systems I’ve written have profiled with most of the cpu and allocations in the JSON parser, when all it needs is a few fields. But rewriting it all in SAX is just not wort

I got three quotes for a new water heater just this week. One was more than twice the other. I'll see where number three comes in. $1900 for a resistive electric water heater seems steep, but at least there's an argument that it&#

If you live in an apartment you shouldn't even need a car. We need to get cars out of cities, and EVs into suburbs and rural areas.
