When was it not OK to openly curse on blog posts? Blog posts are from the mass of individuals, and may contain literally anything. Why would "not just people in IT" matter...?

I don't know where I fit in the scheme of things, but I suspect people get a lot more on Amazon than you're thinking they do once they have Prime. I've got 120 orders in the last 6 months. If you take the $80/year and sp

In what way is asking someone, somewhere, to move a project to another, unnamed language, going to be more effective than actually starting a project and putting code into it? Sure, "go do it yourself" is not a pleasant response,

What they're collecting is information. Their knowledge is in how to collect all of it, and access it. That's where they're taking action.

Nothing I've seen on Hacker News would lead me to the conclusion that 2013 was the year of Go being unanimously praised. It gets flack every time a story shows up.

Since you said "at every level": optimizing via caching (at the program/memcached level) before you have otherwise made the code go as fast as it can has several problems. It can obscure future performance enhancements, may t

There was an article that mentioned ancient roman concrete survived so long not because it was STRONGER (it's about 10 times weaker than modern concrete) but because it survived the elements better. At least partially, because it was m

Yeah, you might wanna take a read of that one again: the neighbor who wants to stop mending the fence, is making fun of the neighbor who won't stop repeating "good fences make good neighbors."

Slide incorrectly attributes the "premature optimization" quote to Hoare, but it's Knuth's. http://hans.gerwitz.com/2004/08/12/premature-optimization-is...

Comparing, and... nope. They were both developed within a few years of each other, and are from different paradigms, so regression seems like a cheap dig, but not an accurate one.

There were plenty of complaints from some film critics, which is a particular audience, but I don't think you can take that and say most people didn't like the high frame rate version of The Hobbit.

Has Carmack actually predicted that Haskell will be a big deal? I know he's said he WANTS functional programming to be a big deal, and that he's looking to do a Haskell-coded game or engine. But I can't find a prediction on a
