O'Reilly only pays the speakers that wouldn't speak otherwise. I can tell you I've never gotten paid to speak at an O'Reilly conference and Chris Wanstrath wasn't paid to keynote at RailsConf either. I assume they do this because they know

Yea, these are the guys, good quality and price. I also like that they left the square backing on the circle stickers so they weren't impossible to peel off.

We debated for a very long time whether we actually wanted to build this product, we like GitHub's SaaS model and the revenue is solid. In the end we decided the only way we were going to do it is by pricing it high enough that the enterpri

How much are you willing to pay? :) Seriously, though, it's probably priced beyond what most small teams could afford, but it's on a per-company basis which is why we're not posting prices. GitHub:FI was really built with large customers in

Forks aren't gem-enabled by default. Meaning, the forker had to go out of their way to indicate there is something different about their gem. Is it possible there isn't unique code on some of these gems? Sure, but I wouldn't discount them o

We use Prawn, read more about it here: http://github.com/blog/204-pdf-receipts . There's a code snippet in the comments that looks a lot like the code we use to generate the PDF.

Having written two billing systems in the past year, I'll never build one again. There are certainly advantages to writing your own, we generate custom PDF receipts at GitHub that customers really seem to like, but the amount of time wasted

Amazon keeps adding really great features to AWS, but the technology that makes companies like Heroku interesting is being able to use them without caring how any of it works.

We spent months building GitHub's issue system and had a lengthy beta period. No one experienced the bug you're referring to until the feature went public. Shit happens, you fix it and move on.

On a much smaller scale, the amount of metadata generated from the Git operations we do at GitHub was killing GFS until we instituted a more aggressive strategy to clear it out. I'm not surprised this was an issue for Facebook.

I'm not sure why you're being down-modded. The Python team purporting to do DVCS research and then saying their decision was made on a gut feeling seems disingenuous at best. Sure, I'm biased because I work for GitHub, but this decision wou

Easily one of the best TED talks I've seen. It certainly makes me wonder what I'm contributing to society building GitHub. Not that what I'm doing isn't fulfilling and helpful to others, but rather what more I could be doing.
