Because it's incredibly dangerous to think your machines are more secure just because you own them. How much time per day do you spend making sure your machine and everything on it is secure? We employ teams of people to keep your code safe

Consider yourself lucky. I've had Taxi Magic and Cabulous leave me stranded a number of times. My favorite was the night Taxi Magic dispatched five different drivers over the course of 45 minutes and I never got picked up. Forget calling th

It shocks me to this day we never once discussed version control in any of my CS classes.

Given the app isn't particularly popular or compelling, I'm a bit incredulous over the fact that you only need a couple of internet-famous co-founders to warrant a $100MM offer.

This isn't about entertainment, this is so our users know why repos are missing.

Totally agree on the redirect. As far as our response, there would essentially be nothing to publish. We inform the repo owner and the rest is up to them.

That's how the DMCA process works. The last thing we want our users to think is we're deleting repos for no reason, that's why we're publishing the takedowns from here on out. We receive the notice, lock the repo, and inform its owner why i

Growing up with two parents constantly stressed and fighting about money, having financial security is about the most calming thing I could imagine. For me, it's less about being able to do extravagant things, and more about never having to

I don't begrudge you for using BitBucket because you prefer Mercurial, but your original response only had to do with the cost of the service which is why I felt compelled to respond. Thanks for the kind words about GitHub.

I lived in Chicago for 22 years and had my fair share of deep dish growing up, Lou's in particular because we had one not more than five minutes away. This is total blasphemy as a Chicago native, but I think Paxti's is the best deep dish I'

We compete against BitBucket's free plan by providing better service & features, a much larger community, and an insane amount of publicly available code. It came as no surprise to us when Atlassian decided the only way BitBucket could

I don't know the Firesheep guys personally to determine their motivation behind not informing us prior to releasing the extension, but I'm very surprised Netcraft acted this way. People seem to be jumping on this issue with zero regard for

The vulnerability is wide-spread, but Firesheep was released with handlers written targeting specific sites, including GitHub. So, yes, I would have appreciated a heads up from those guys.

Sometimes the domains will be listed for sale on sedo.com, otherwise you can use a service (also on sedo.com) to try and contact the owner on your behalf.

If you really want a 4-letter .com, plenty of people sell them for relatively little money. I own dufz.com, ikxr.com, izkc.com, liwk.com, puzd.com and I don't remember paying more than $10 for each. I also own vjot.com, a more readable name

When we started GitHub, I looked into getting a loan from the SBA because we didn't want to go the VC route, but the requirements were off-putting to say the least. Stuff like "SBA requires the borrower to have invested between 25 to 50 per

I'd add Paypal support to GitHub if Braintree integrated it with their system so I wouldn't have to interface with Paypal directly. Too many horror stories.

I'm unbelievably biased working for GitHub, but the layout of Launchpad is abhorrent. It took me almost 10 minutes to even figure out how to view any of the OpenStack code. I hope Canonical hires someone with some semblance of design and us
